Where are they? Here's the biggest knife forum in the world and where are they? Under Knife Makers Forum? Nope. Under Manufacturers Forum? Nope.

So what's my problem? I just tried to replace a scale on an XM-18 3.5 and with extremely minimal force (which unfortunately I can't identify in Newton/Meters) but it was minimal. The head of the one of the three bolts holding the thing together shears off and goes flying. Still haven't found it. It probably will be vacuumed up within the next few days.

What's the name of the bolt that sheared off so easily? I don't F'n know. The bolts (there's 3 of them) that hold the whole thing together.

Hinderer where did you get the hardware from? Chinese seconds? Oh yeah I forgot you're not even here.

Have you tried contacting them about this yet? Just give em a call, they’ll take good care of you and send you a new screw. Even the best of companies out there aren’t perfect and will have a lemon or two slip out the door.

Makers and manufacturers here only have a sub if they have staff that will regularly log in and interact. It is not for everyone; lots of much bigger and smaller folks don't have a sub either.

As for a head snapping off a bolt? Well that's usually not to bad to deal with since after that there's not so much of a load on the threads and it's easier to wind out that when the head strips out.

You seem to be overreacting a little bit. Maybe calm down, contact the company and see if they can help. If they don't, then come here and tell everyone about it.

Presuming you can remove the rest of the screw, this should be a very small problem. Just contact them and get a new screw. If you can't remove the rest and it needs to be drilled out , then it needs to be sent in.
as to who is making the screws-Hinderer
When you contact them, being calm and polite will get you better results than angry and raving.

Even those that have their own forums usually don't want to deal with customer service issues directly on the forum . Contact your dealer or the manufacture's CS .

I had two screw heads shear off on an XM as well. Luckily there was no loc-tite and I was able to spin the remaining male threaded portion out and RHK sent me replacements.

Picked up temporary screws at a hardware store the next day so I could use it in the mean time.

I have to ask. Is that your real hair or a wig? Pretty epic if its for real!

Case and GEC are not here either. A manufacturer has to ask to get a sub-forum, and moderate it themselves.
Some companies don't want the hassles, and/or (correctly) decide they don't need a sub-forum here to sell their knives to the folk that hang out here.
Most manufacturers have a "Forum" specific to their brand on their website, by the way. (one might call it a "fan club", and woe betide any who say something bad, about them, like a screw broke.

If the screw head if off, the rest will just come out of the scale easily, right? Then just install a new screw and a new bolt (the old spacer is still usable).

Junk?...not exactly, but way overpriced for a thick and heavy pocket anchor. Should have bought a CRK...

this isn’t a crk vs. rhk thread.

Totally different tools for different purposes. I own both and use them differently, love me a Spanto grind xm.

both have excellent warranties... to the OP, as it’s been said, contact RHK and Be polite and describe the issue and I’d bet they more than make it right.

It seems like just yesterday, knife flippers were selling Hinderers like hotcakes for $600 to $800 a pop.
Ha I got offered $1k for a lottery version in a small specialty steel batch run a few years ago. Now I would probably get the normal going rate or a bit less. But that's good because people were really taking advantage of the situation and others were not able to get their hands on the knives

Absolutely , I bet some of the more prolific flippers were P O'd when Hinderers became widely available to the general public. :)
