Slightly overpriced, i wish they were in the 350 range, but better than what they were 8 years ago ; that was definitely not worth it.

Its more than a name. They achieve a level of quality then the name becomes known. Can you get near what you paid if you decide to sell. Some brands yes. Some no. Chinese cars were good for the money for what you got in return until trade in time and you would take a hit. Some things are a good investment some aren't.
Bought a four season high quality RV for 28k. Used in 5 years, just traded it in and got 23k. Same brand moved up in size and didn't need to bunk model. New one discounted 10k. I was very pleased. Neighbor paid 24k for a RV. Went to trade it and was offered 10k. That brand was a bad investment.

They seem a bit overpriced for the materials and design. Price seems inline with USA made. Way too clunky looking and heavy for me. All the clip plates, screws, ugly pivot, ugly over travel stop. Just not my thing.

I used to be in RV sales. Hard comparison with the Trade in value & Retail discount +dealer installed option shim sham.
Some dealers shimmed better than they shammed, lol.

I was in RV sales also. And car sales a long time ago. I went in skeptical but the dealer we chose is next to where they manufacture and the reviews they get from up and down the west coast were amazing. Very pleased as there were no freight or set up fees either. Just sales tax and license.
Hinderer knives are real nice, every model regardless of maker has strong points. I would say buy what you can afford but pay attention to overall reputation of the brand. If you save up for a larger knife purchase and do your homework their will be a lot of pride involved with ownership.
Thats awesome.

We should also not loose sight of the fact that this is a small business owner, craftsman, and inventor of technology in the industry (lock-bar stabilizer). Something we all profess to support, and IMO someone like that is free to set prices where he deems fit and let the market decide. And it has. Hell, if they were cheaper I wouldn't surprise me to see the sought after versions snatched up and sold at a premium on the secondary market, where they would again become overpriced. This is not a fanboy statement here either, just someone who is happy with the two I've purchased giving my perspective.

Also, aside from CRKs, they’re the only folders I’m aware of that easily go back together exactly right everytime.

I have 5 Koenig Arius that all go back together exactly right every time. My Gen 4 XM 18 does not. The blade centers if I crank the pivot down tight enough to make it a two handed opener.

I am under the impression that Hinderer QC has improved since they produced mine.

I’ll find out if they’re worth it as soon as there’s a 3” Gen 6 Wharnie with a working finish and orange G10.

Came and went 2 years ago.

That's really easy to correct. Just need an allen driver and a plastic card.

Gen 6 3”?

I didn’t know that...but I’ve been watching the Exchange anyway (when I can).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I owned 3 XM and while I do like the XM3.5 better, I personally think the ZT562Ti has better ergo-dynamic than my XM.

XM is a handsome looking knife, but I never fully understand the reason of aggressive jimping under the flipper area(except to hide flipping problem in earlier GEN? I just don't see how it's for 'retention'/'grip' which could have been on the spine, placed under the edge pf palm, where you have most contact with the knife) And in terms of disassembly, all of my CRKs always can be resembled to exactly where it was everytime, while some of my XMs always seem to need a lot 'fine tuning' each time, which says something about the tolerance.

So much better than tight machining tolerances!

What’s the Allen driver for? I see torx, Phillips, flathead, and the backside of the pivot that takes the spinner bit. Do you pry inside the frame with the 90 degree bend?

:)

Stock scale screws are allen/hex. Loosen, put card in to shift blade towards lockside, re-tighten scale screws.

All I know is Rick hasn’t raised his prices in years and that’s more than I can say for most makers. I voted worth it. I love my RHK’s (just unfortunate when I need to sell one to buy another..)

My collection has samplings from all over.

Cold steel, spyderco, CRK, olamic, shirogorov, benchmade, and hinderer(xm-18 fullered spear)

The Hinderer wins pocket time at least 4 days out of the week. So good!

Mines a little jazzed up. Mine is full titanium, with a titanium showside scale, plus it runs off skiffmade bearings that I installed(13 ceramic bearings in phosphor cages)
I got the 3.5" DLTTrading Fullered spear exclusive version. So fun spydieflicking it open!

Someday I hope to get more! I'd love to get a no choil spanto, xm24, fulltrack/halftrack, 3" xm18

I can't think of many knives as good or better at this price range. I love CRK, but I'm really digging the flippers as of late. The tri-way system is awesome! So cool to have a choice! With my skiff bearings, I've made my hinderer a QUAD-WAY system!

I say overpriced mainly because the warranty is not there like a crk and other mid tech or high end production knives. Also customer service has been a hassle for me in the past. At the price point I feel their are better options again YMMV.

I have to say, mine is built absolutely flawless. I can't uncenter the pivot if I tried. Dead center

Lockup percentage is a solid 35-40%, which for me is perfect.

I love the ergos. Extremely comfortable for my hand, more then any other knife I own

And finally, I love how the knife looks. When I first saw the xm-18 last year (when suggested to me in these very forums), I thought it was a little ugly. I had vowed not to buy one.
Everyone kept insisting, so I began research. Watched alot of videos and the hype built up in my mind.

So happy you guys talked me into it. Thank you!
