Recommendation? Hinderer or Microtech

Between theses chooses, I would get whichever shape or blade shape you prefer. They will both be of quality. Get the one you think you'll use more. After all that is why we buy them, right?

it depends on what you are looking for .... a socom elite is a very large knife but it is also a knife with very good geometries, you can cut very hard and tenacious things very easily.
hinderer are customizable knives with an impeccable execution, they can also be used for improper uses they will not disappoint or fail, the price to pay is a very conservative blade geometry that will not have great cutting capacity.
there is also a big difference in price when buying.
i have both .... i don't know what to recommend they are very different knives.
i prefer blades that cut really well any material in this the socom is great.

I recently bought a mini socom ... excellent size. but it took me 15 years to find it

I don't think you could go wrong with either option. Some things to consider:

Microtech are solid knives period. Depending on which version/how old it is it may require proprietary hardware / bits. I don't have much experience with their autos, but the manuals are what I've played with before.

RHK allows for Tip up or tip down carry. You can also customize it to your hearts content with different scales, colored hardware etc. I feel the XM-18 are more bulky compared to the Socom series, but I've never held them side by side.

Please don't view this as bashing, but rather as the legitimate inquiry that it is. Has Microtech stepped up there game in regards to customer care?

I like Microtech knives and have a few left, though I sold a good portion of them. I don't carry or use them but they are nice knives and I like them. While I have never attempted to use Microtech's customer care/service (here come that dreaded phase on any forum) I have heard horror stories of months and months to get a knife back, sometimes never getting the knife back at all and no answer to phone calls or emails. To be honest, it has chilled me on the brand - even though I do like the knives.

For that reason, and perhaps more that need not be brought out in this post, I would go with a Hinderer even though I think there are similarly performing options in the marketspace that provide greater value. I do recognize that "value" is subjectively tied to owner satisfaction. For the most part, I use my knives and perceive them as tools; though I am guilty of having some safe queens. Because most of my knives get used, every once in a while (thankfully not too often) they have to go back for some spa time - hence my concern about warranty/customer service.

Separately, if you are into modding a knife to make it yours, the Hinderer platform certainly facilitates that.

Microtech has amazing cs now. I known the past that was not so, but over the last 4 or 5 years they have focused on customer care in a significant way.
