Hinderer XM-18 3.5 Wharn...BLUE!

Curious about the xm18 3.5s gen 3s... Is it common for the main pivot screw to loosen very easily? I think I understand how to adjust the tightness with blade half out.. but the screw tends to loosen with use faster than any other knife I've owned.

Since you like making them your own do you ever buy the mules and put your own scales on them? Post ISO on the hbf page and someone might hook you up? I've done two mules. Greabt knives.

Use of Loctite:
Hinderer Knives only recommends Blue Loctite on the pivot screw (sparingly). Don’t use loctite on any of the other screws (i.e., the standoff screws, the pocket clip screws, the LBS screw). If you don’t want to use the Blue Loctite, I recommend Vibra-Tite VC-3 on the pivot screw.

RDA - thanks.. so this is a fairly common design issue? You could call it, ease of adjusting? O_O I'll try that.. I just don't want to screw up the action, as it is very smooth, has good retention, etc.. just only keeps it for a few weeks.. and after stropping back to sharp sharp, it is wobbly.

Design issue? Pretty certain I never said that. They either have some threadlock on them or not. I don't believe every XM ever made received threadlock from the Ranch but they do currently. I have no idea if you bought it direct or it had prior ownership, if it had threadlock on it originally or not, if it had been removed, etc. I personally use VC-3 and provide the comment/suggestion above.

I have several with very slight amounts of the "blue", a bunch with nothing - Both are fine.

World is Full of people walking around with more than one screw loose , never had one of my XM's with one but..... as RDA mentions easy tweak. Little teflon tape works also.

Pretty certain I never said YOU SAID that. I am saying it is a design "issue". And that is not to say it is a good or bad thing. Just happens to be something that I've only noticed with this folder. I see it as an ease of adjustment design. Though I don't like using loctite, but I may have to try it on this knife as I don't like to be adjusting my pivot as often as this knife seems to need it.

So are saying all new knives come with loctite on them now? Hmmm.

Thanks for the input, and hope you are getting some use outta that blue wharnie!

Got one new stand offs and an LBS as well as an Orange scale.

I like the Orange but I went back to the blue. The lock stick isn't really a problem anymore. I guess it broke in. I still apply sharpie though.
