Thanks it just looks scary when the only contact is that little bit only infront and not across the length of the lockbar. I guess it will wear in faster because it just contact on such a small areaIt doesn't look out of the ordinary to me. Since it's new, it will probably wear in a little. If there is no blade play and the lockbar isn't slipping, I wouldn't worry about it.
Its actually normal, on gen 4 where he still carbidize the lockbar face, he just carbidize that small portion of the lock bar that contacted the tang of the blade.I just got a new hinderer xm-18 3.5 and I noticed that the lockbar only catches the tang of the blade on the corner is this normal? It looks as if the lock face was not ground please advise

Thanks

You can always send it to Hinderer, if you feel it's a warranty issueThis knife is brand new Gen 6 just got from dealer
Interesting I thought less contact would equal more wear and more pressure on one spot causing failure I guess I need to research it moreI agree with the others. Looks totally normal, even proper.
As far as the part in your pic about the light you can see.....that's exactly what you want. It might seem counterintuitive, but the smaller that contact surface is, the more solid your lockup will be. You actually don't want contact along the entire face of the lockbar or you will have lock rock.
Thanks I'm looking into it seems funny to think less contact is betterPre-insert lockup which is definitely in spec, because I sent it back for detent ball replacement and Hinderer reconditioned the entire knife.
The earlier lockup doesn't bother me it was that just a small part of the lock face was actually touching and not the whole length (not width)There’s light because the lock bar only contacts the tang on the front. That’s standard among many makers. Strider does the same. I think even CRK may do something similar. Lock bar position looks fine to me otherwise. I have a Gen 4 and it started with even earlier lock up.
I guess I'll first see what the consensus is hereYou can always send it to Hinderer, if you feel it's a warranty issue
If the knife withstands a moderate spine tap on something like the heel of your shoe, I'd call it good. I have seen some ZT models that had lockup that looked too little and it didn't take much to jar them out of lock up. Never had any other brand do that in my personal experience.Interesting I thought less contact would equal more wear and more pressure on one spot causing failure I guess I need to research it more
Thanks
Kk ill give it a tryIf the knife withstands a moderate spine tap on something like the heel of your shoe, I'd call it good.
