For XM-24, this one is Gen 2. Current is Gen 3.

Detent is not as strong as current Hinderers, but Hinderer made knives at that time to be more easily deployed with the thumb studs. Still, the 4" blade flips fine for me. If it's going to be a tool and not a TV-watching toy, you won't have trouble opening it when needed.
