Hinderer XM18 3.5 vs SNG vs CRK Ummmnum

The Umnumzaan is sleek, tough, smooth and will cut anything I would dare cut with a pocket knife. I like the looks of the XM-18, but it is way to thick for my taste, as is the SNG is too thick but I don't like the looks of that knife. I suspect any of the three knives will last a person a very long time and serve the owner well. To me, it comes down to what you like to carry and for me, sleek and tough are a must and I get that from the Umnumzaan. But I don't see anything wrong with owning the other two knives if that is what you want. YMMV/ BRO

I have a super nice SMF CC and a Zaan. Handled a XM18 but never carried one.

Of the three, I wouldn't hesitate to say I'd prefer to "carry" my Zaan over all of them hands down. It might actually be the only high end mid-tech knife I have ever owned and carried that is worth the asking price.

An EDC to me is just what the acronym implies and as fine a knife as the RH is, it doesn't compete with the Zaan for EDC. Too thick in the pocket and the blade profile is not what I prefer for EDC.

In fact, my beloved SMF probably wouldn't be as endearing to me if it wasn't the CC model. I may have a Lego someday but there is no way it would carry as well as the CC.

Don't get me wrong - I have and will own folding knives that aren't the best carry knives in the world but I own them and will own such knives just for the WOW factor but as EDC goes, mark me down for the Umnumzaan without hesitation out of these three. I get a warm feeling inside every time I pull my Zaan out and use it. :D

I lusted after the XM for a LONG time. Finally got one and I was in love with it. The problem for me is not the weight, it's just I have cheaper knives that do KNIFE things better (slicing). If I REALLY needed an overbuilt knife and couldn't have a fixed blade, I would be after an XM. The other think for me is the opportunity cost. Even if I get one at MSRP, the thought of losing or being able to sell it to have 2 different knives always got the better of me.

I haven't tried the others but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a lefty SnG. Used to want an Umnum, but for some reason don't feel the urge anymore.

IMO anyone considering any of these should also seriously consider the Les George VECP.

I agree, I think the ZAAN is more of an EDC type knife, easy to carry, cuts very well and feels good in hand. :)
