Hinderer's M390

It's the same M390 everyone else uses. HT details, I believe, are pretty specific. I don't see why it would vary.

Not saying that statement is inaccurate in ANY way but :

There is a very marked difference in the edge holding of two of my Benchmades in M390; my Ritter Griptillian holds an edge until the cows come home, are snuggled down had dinner and are watching the late late show . . . my 710 not so much.

Probably just edge grind and thinness behind the edge (Grip is much thinner behind the edge and shallower angle) (((( could Cliff Stamp be right ? Yuuuup ! )))).

If you don't have any M390 yet you are in for a treat.

I used an M390 XM to cut up a bunch of carpet as soon as I got the knife and it buggered up the edge pretty good.
No idea why I didn't take a pic.
There was some decent rolling on the edge, but no chips or anything.
Took me about 5-10 light passes each with a medium and fine belt on my Work Sharp to get it back to good as new.

M390 is great stuff without a doubt.

I ordered a XM-18 3.5" no choil in M390 from DLT yesterday evening, and I figured I'd ask if anyone here had any personal hands on experience with anything Hinderer in M390, and of course it doesn't hurt to ask.

Their knives are pretty good, they should be for $400+, so I'm relatively sure their HT is as well... but you never know.

Thanks for your input arskrg.

Good choice. I like those.

I had it on a harpoon spanto and it was okay. Didnt care for it as much as my other m390 knifes. HT makes all the difference. Sold it

Good question. They run on the soft side (listed as between 59-60 HRC as opposed to 60-63HRC like 99% of other makers- Bohler, the maker of m390 steel, recommends between 60-62). Pretty suboptimal for a folding knife, to be honest. But suboptimally treated m390 will still outperform S35VN.

Hope that answers your question.

My xm18 m390 when sharpened to 24 dps would still roll so easily. It reminded me of Emersons 154cm at 57-59 it was so soft. Though I did only try one.

I had a 20CV Hinderer. Should be close if not identical to m390. Mine was excellent steel. That said, it is supposed to be a hard use knife. For this purpose, I believe S35VN to be superior. Toughness is comparable but maintenance is easier. IMO either way Hinderer does a great job with their heat treat.

Got the no choil in yesterday. The blade is razor sharp to be sure, but for whatever reason it's not assembled correctly. The handle scales aren't perpendicular... it's almost like the stop pin is too long and it's mucking up the whole thing.

It'll be on it's way into Hinderer here shortly.

It's already on it's way to Hinderer. Give me a couple of weeks, I'll get some knife porn up here for you!
