Could you guys post your hinged box Schrade Walden knives? Old Timer, Uncle Henry, or Craftsman hinged boxes as well. These were the gift box knives when Schrade started these these two lines. I'll start with a new 885UH just received from a fellow forum member.

Schrade usually finished these knives with care. This one has what I believe are stainless steel milled liners and stainless springs. Serial number 17485.

Yeah Brady - Those are "holy grail" boxes. At one time the 8OT with real bone handles came in those, as it states in the little pamplet. I think the 2OT came in a similar box.

Here is a Schrade Walden 108OT "Junior" with a long pull.

There a few other examples in the pamplet. I have a Schrade Walden 34OT, but it is in a tube.

Anyone got a Woodsman or one of those folding hunters in the box?

Here is a paper covered balsa wood box with an unusual very early 8 OT. The handles are shrunk away a bit from the bolsters, or they were fitted that way. I assume it is Delrin. they are smooth, not saw-cut, and are impregnated with an almost microscopic gold dust or glitter. Most people would not be able to detect this without a magnifying glass. Very odd.

I have the complete cedar/redwood box and packaging and the silver anniversary 34 OT, but if you do a search on this forum you will find pictures of that. I forgot to say that the aforementioned 8 OT has the same box as shown in one of the earlier posts in this thread, showing the top of the box. Also, I would like to call attention to the nice swedge on that weird 8 OT.

Bone maybe? If that knife is original to that box, it is probably bone. The boxes were only used the first year or so of production, before Delrin was produced (1960). Look really, really close and see if you can see the haversian canals (pores) in the bone. It could be brass dust or other debris you are seeing stuck in the pores.

The ad claims the box to be "redwood", but I think it was actually cedar. Don't have one in-hand though.

This is the last of the Mohican's here for hinged boxes that I still own. A Keen Kutter - Schrade Walden from 1969. And she has milled brass liners..

Here's a bone 8OT in its original box. The box lacks the distinctive cedar odor, so maybe it is redwood? Unfortunatly the paperwork has long since flown the coop (anyone know where I can find one of those little stringed flyers like Brady's?). The bone is quite unmistakeable, very similar to the 2OT bone.

The lettering, and nails, are a bit different from the anniversary box.

Here are a few more boxes. Hal, that's a mighty low number on the 285, 1095 on the blades?
SunnyD, nice Keen Kutter!

Here is the Craftsman (Schrade) bowie that is built on the same chassis as the 166 Buffalo Bill. I was too lazy to dig for the box and photograph it, so I used the ebay picture. If someone really wants a good photograph I will dig.

I have two of those exactly like that, but both came in a slip-top box, not hinged. Do you happen to have the Sears number for your knife? I don't think it will be on the knife itself, but rather on the paperwoek or on the end of the box itself.

The Sportsman is based on the short-lived 41OT.

Also, the other two patterns I have in this same series came in the slip-top boxes.

Here is the obverse and reverse of the paperwork for the Craftsman bowie. The number 6/21627 appears on the end of one side of that paperwork. The number 21627 (without the 6/) appears on the white cardstock slipsleeve that encased the brown paperboard hinged knife box.

Thanks. (6/) is the department number, the rest is the Sears item number. Yep, that is the same paper that came with my Craftsman Bowies, just a different box. That is one honker of a knife! It is hard to not play "ninja pirate" when you have one in each hand! :D

In 1967, Schrade Walden produced a unique 12" Bowie style knife. That year 1,572 of them were shipped to Sears Roebuck & Co. as their #21627. Over the next six years nearly 10,000 more were sold to Sears for a total of 11,0334 knives. 166SR was Schrade Walden's name for the version of the 166 that they made for Sears Roebuck, specifically for the American Eagle Series. The first Sears number was #21627, and the number for the last lots in 1972 and 1973 changed to #73603. That the details of the knives with these two numbers are the same is assured by the SW pattern number of both (P#3027) and the SW name for both (166SR).
This is the 165 pattern Deerslayer knife shown on those inserts:

Those are mighty nice and rare Craftsman Old Timers Michael.

A couple more. Both 3 1/4" "55" patterns:

Not quite like the Uncle Henry, and not delrin. It's still sharp too.

"Super Razor Blade Stainless" and "Red Meerschaum Bone" (which I believe is Derlrin)
