Hinged Box Schrade Walden

This one is common enough, I guess. Schrade Walden 885 UH stockman, serial #08497. It is nice to get photographs all together of the complete package, sans knife, which everyone has seen. Super trivia: The teenytiny brass hinges are stamped with patent # 2,648,485!

The rest of the story? Patent #2648485 was issued to D. Young (Of Prov. RI.) for his "Cardboard Box Spring Hinge" on August 11th, 1953.

American black walnut box with brass plaque and hinges, and crushed red velvet interior. Oh... and it has a stag and sterling silver mounted 804 whittler inside, with stainless blades. I didn't get any paperwork with this one.

Codger those are some beautiful knives. I bet you have more Schrade knives than the number of people that dislike Obama. LOL.

Not even close! Many of the members here have more knives than I do, and many more in better condition than mine. Me, I collect the history and the trivia more than the knives.

You say common, but of the three Uncle Henry folders, I think the 885UH is the least common of the three. The 897UH is by far the most common. Wondering if your 885 has steel milled liners.

Love that 13OT.

Thawk, the aforementioned 885UH has milled outer liners (I can't tell whether they are steel or nickel silver) and a brass center liner, unmilled.

Well I admire your knowledge and wisdom. You are a wealth of information for old newbe collectors. Thanks so much for what you do. I'm 65 and only have been collecting for the last 8 years. So I have a lot to learn. I'm grateful to have someone like you and some of the others to help.

A Schrade Walden 897UH. Serial Number 18537.

897UH_hinge_f.jpg

Tiny tang stamp, with STAINLESS on 3rd row.

897UH_hinge_b.jpg

Lighter brown box, like the Old Timers.

All brass liners are milled. I have serial numbers on either side with only the outer liners milled. Most have STAINLESS on the 4th row of yang stamp. Never seen a Schrade Walden 897UH with the pattern number stamped on the knife.

This is some of my Hinged Boxed knives.

This Bone 8OT should be in a wooden box, the box was used about 1963 for the later 8OT's with the Delrin handles.

MY 885UH has a SCHRADE N.Y. U.S.A. 885UH tang stamp, and all stainless steel liners and springs. Only the outer liners have jimping (due to the hardness of the stainless steel used – The jimping is poor). It also has a very long nail pull; serial numbered 69033.

I have a Schrade I*XL in a hinged box. Would that be fit for this thread?
I think this thread was started for the old Walden Boxes - I posted a SS34 as it was mentioned in the thread.
I posted the Primble - Old Timers, only because they were made by Schrade and only have a different tang stamp.
My most prized Schrade made knife in my collection, is a 1966 Buck 301. No one on these Forums seem to be impressed by my Buck.
I have two Bone 8OTs and seen half a dozen more, I have only seen about 3 1966 Bucks - and only one mint example.

These are all Schrades.

Thanks, I don't recall any threads about the I*XL versions.

I think it's funny that Schrade and Buck were competitors, yet interacted by making knives for each other.
I'm sure that didn't happen very often, so I can see why yours are so rare.

Schrade made the Buck Stockman knives from 1966 to about 1970, then Camillus made them for Buck until they started to make their own 301s around 1973-74.

This is all the Schrade and Camillus 301's, and the last one (on the Left) is a late 301, made in Buck's new Post Falls ID factory.

You should start your own I*XL thread, I would like to see the different I*XL's as I do not have any in my collection... Ken

Since this thread was necro'd (Fine by me), I thought I would add a hinged box. 1966 production 165OT serial #00009.
