Lower tusks can be as much as 18 inches long. They nest within a recess in the upper jaw when the mouth is closed, unlike pigs or elephants for example. That knife is outstanding.

I love this knife for all evident reasons! Hippo tusk, WOW! I would've never thought of that :) and the nickel spacer is a nice accent. I love the groove accents along the spine (hope that's what it's called). Similar to what one might find on a Filipino/Guamanian blade's spine (those being more straight lines), of course I have never seen this type of pattern. Nice nice nice!
