History Channel "Self Reliance" show?

I watched it last night.

Definitley made for TV. However it did give just enouigh info that if someone were interested they could find more info online on any of the subjects.

They arene't the first to use wood to run a pickup truck. Mothe Earth News ran a pickup clear accross the US in 1974 on 2x4 tailings. They still sell the plans for the wood-gasifier unit. Mainly so it cn be hooked up to a generator. FEMA also puts out a set of plans that was designed mainly to power a tractor under emergncy fuel conditions.

For TV the show wasn't too bad.

I enjoyed the show. They're exploring the subject but not probing it in depth. It's not intended to teach you HOW they're doing what they're doing precisely. I think there are in fact laws or at least restrainments against airing gunpowder recipes and still schematics in depth on television in an effort to keep serious buffoons from hurting neighbors or themselves. Recipes/schematics can be found online though. I think the show depicted them fairly.
