91 Short stay in La then Reno

And the story continues....

Its hard to believe its 2000 already. I still drive the same car I had in 90!

Glad you found a city you could both agree on. Ca sounds worst than Canada for laws.

Uncle Bill, I did not realize you were selling khukuri's for so long. Back in 89 I was trying to get a Cold Steel ATC. It was the only decent khukuri I could find. I guess I should have looked harder.

I had been buying Cold Steel knives since thier first Tanto and Urban Skinner and was one of the first to get an ATC from Cold Steel
.I placed an order,it took almost a full year to get one they told me at CS that they were having problems with the steel they were getting. Finally they sent it.By that time Bill sent me a real Khukuri and the ATC went in the closet.

Those early years were very tough and sometimes discouraging. Nobody knew anything about Nepal or the khukuris that were made there. Everybody spelled it "kukri" except me. People thought the khukuris we were offering were junkers from India. My advertising and promotion budget was ridiculous in terms of percent of sales.
But, that early effort paved the way for the khukuri dealers in Kathmandu and for some of the shops who produce the export and tourist quality khukuris although I am sure none or very few of them realize this and care less.

The only thing that kept me at it was knowing that we were helping a few poor folks back in Nepal. It certainly was not the money. My old engineering job in today's dollars would be paying me about 80 or 100 thousand per year. My pay as a PC volunteer in Nepal was $75 per month and when I went back there to live and try to do a little private volunteer work the pay was zero.

Somewhere along the way maybe 25 or 30 years ago money became a secondary consideration and happiness and self respect became primary.

Khukuri FAQ

There is no room for love in a heart filled with fear and resentment. REFUSE to hate on a daily basis.

My job today is to enjoy life, whether I like it or not. COMMIT to finding joy on a daily basis.

How did that signature one one of the forums go? I already knew one something like "peace is not the absence of the storm, but calm within the storm." I like the new one that goes "Peace is not the absence of conflict but the ability to cope with conflict."

Now go and be nice. I'm running out of mineshafts to dump the bodies of people who p****d me off down.

Too many nutty tourists and too close to the seismic labs at the University in Reno. This far out you can get away with sealing the shaft off with a stick or two especially if they're using the mortar range to demil some shells.

What's really nice is in the winter storm months there are these kilns off Lucky Boy and during low clouds and rainstorms you can stoke them up and burn the evidence without any untoward attention.
