History of the trapper pattern?

I know it's a little off the original topic, but I know someone here has the answer.

I have a Case 5 dot mini trapper and a couple newer Case versions .
The earlier ones have a clip blade and a pen blade. The newer ones have a clip and spey blade. I wonder what the reasoning was in changing configurations ?

My thinking is that the earlier ones were just a different version of jack knife, and by changing to a spey blade it made it a true mini-trapper.

Either way, I really like the pattern, old and new :D

I Think..... 6207 was a pattern with a clip and pen blade @ 3 1/2" closed. I believe this pattern in 1979 was drooped. In 1980 it was given a spay blade for the pen and given a new pattern *202 the Mini Trapper. Same frame and closed length @ 3 1/2"... Trappers have wider market than the serpentine Jack. More than likely the reason for change... MO???? Either way they are the same knife frame, and the 202 continues today... Perhaps Knifeaholic can clear this up........

You are correct except for the pattern number. The 6207 with standard clip and pen blade configuration (CV) had been in the Case line since thw pre WWII years. In mid to late 1979, it was discontinued and the basic pattern was used for the new "Mini Trapper" pattern number 6207 SP SSP. The mini as originally configured had bone handles, California clip and spey blades (SS) with glazed finish and etching on the main blade.

Thanks Steve for the clarification.. I have listing in 1982 for a 6702 SP SSP "Mini Trapper". When I saw that I should have known it is was a mis-print as there are not any Case 7 bladed knives 6702....:)

Thanks for the info guys.. I tend to think of my 5 dot 6207 as my BBQ knife, and the later versions for field use..
Thats probably giving the whole thing way more analysis than is required :D

Actually, I am liking the visual!. :D :D

I don't s'pose you have a picture of one handy? My brief search didn't turn up anything.

The knife in the middle is the closest to the trapper pattern. Interestingly, very few knives in the catalogue have clip blades. Almost all large single and multi blade jack knives have spear blades or sheepsfoot blades.
