In a recent discussion with Aldo, he said if I could prove that enough people wanted I, he would get more Hitachi Blue #2 steel and also would have a run of white steel equivalent made in Germany.

So, here is where we can convince him. Make a post telling Aldo to please get this steel. I'll start off:

Aldo. I would purchase 50 pounds of these steels. Please stock them. - Stacy E. Apelt

I would get more #2 as well and give the White a try for sure.

I would purchase 20 pounds of blue initially. Likely more later if it didn't all sell out.

I would be interested in the Hitachi steel

I would love to buy some if he added more, I usually drive the 20min to pick up my steel from him instead of paying the shipping. If he had hitachi steels in stock it would definetly be very convenient for me to buy from him instead of ordering it from Germany. Would definetly be making several orders of blue #2 and maybe some white if he could get it in stock as well.

I'm not a quantity steel buyer, but I'm the next step in the consumer/production chain. I've used a knife made out of Blue #2 and I really like it. I would buy more knives made with this steel. Excellent steel. It takes a screaming edge and has excellent edge stability while exposed to the forces of woodworking.

Interesting question. Do we want Blue #2 because of its composition or, in part, because it has the Hitachi name attached to it? I ask because if Aldo is already going to be talkng to his German supplier about "white steel equivalent" why not also give Achim Wirtz a call and see if you could get a batch of 115W8 aka 1.2442? I call that stuff "Blue #1.5 " as it has the carbon content of Blue #2 but the tungsten content closer to Blue # 1.
