Leave it in for about 5 minutes, then pull it out and scrub it with an extra fine scotch brite pad or fine sandpaper in the soda water (you can also use windex Vern).
I soak in warm vinegar (BE SURE THE WIFE IS GONE OR ASLEEP FAR FAR AWAY when heating vinegar in the microwave ) for 2-3 minutes then hit it with windex and a light rub with fine sandpaper, if I'm not happy with the etch it soaks a bit longer. I polish with flitz above and below the "hamon" to make it stand out.
