Do you guys ever have trouble selling a knife? Not that you can't sell it because no one will by it, more like you seem to have trouble listing it or remembering to tell people it is for sale etc.

This is the knife that I have been hoarding. I took it to a show and I intend to take it to my next show. However, I have never listed it anywhere and when people ask what is available my subconscious seems to block it from my memory.

I sometimes keep a knife for myself of a specific pattern, but I already have one of these so it doesn't really make sense to keep it. So instead of keeping it and using it I am apparently just not trying very hard to sell it.

Are you guys hoarding anything?

Hi Allen. I certainly enjoy knives, especially Bowies and some styles of folders, however I do not seem to get attatched to what I make. I do always enjoy hearing that a buyer is particularly pleased with one of mine. Thing is if they buy it they must like it. On the other hand I continue to make what I like but with concideration of what I hope will sell. Frank

for my first couple of years of knifemakeing i was the largest collector or Erik Fritz knives any where. Thank god that has changed, but to answer your question i have a 10.5" bowie that i have taken to Blade Show 2 years in a row and get it down to the show floor and then never put it out because i like it too much.

I hoard all my knives... Because none are good enough to even give away yet! :) That's an interesting blade you have there, I really like the look of it. Maybe I'm retarded but what's going on with the finish on the blade? All of your knives that I've seen have been very aesthetically balanced, this one included. Back to your question, I hoard my knives because I don't feel comfortable giving them away; but if I made some like what I've seen posted on here maybe I wouldn't want them to leave!

Yes i have a few that i had full intention on selling when i was making them but i just cant let them go yet.

Do it all the time..... make em, love em, keep em.... sell em later as prototypes... lol.

Since this is a husband and wife team I Almost have to give my wife the money before I take one of my knives.:D

I can always make another, so I don't hoard my knives. Actually, I've been giving them away.

All of the knives listed on my website are my personal collection. I just price them so that I don't feel too bad seeing them sold. You can tell from the asking price which ones I really don't want to let go...

I have a few knives that I use that I built and some I keep in the shop that I also use or show to people. I refer to them as "shop knives".... no plans on selling those. Then there are those I build I really like, keep for a while, then clean them up and sell them.

i am often happy to see them go. If they stuck around I would never stop fiddling with them and often ruin them in order to try to get them "perfect". I figure to let someone enjoy them while I hammer and grind on another peice of steel.

share the secret to that finish!!! AWSOME!!!

I want every one that leaves :)

Agreed I love that finish! That is really an amazing knife! On topic though I so far have only moded and done kit knives and I keep everything I do. When I start making knives it will be as a hobby not a money making enterprise so I plan to keep everything I do.

I have a few that I could'nt let go. I refer to them as " test knives " so my silent partner :D or wife does'nt get suspicious.

I'm sort of like amcardom in that I have not sold any yet. I do give some away, and I've made a few for only the cost of materials. So I have about 20 cluttering up my shop. Some are pretty cool, some are absolute junk, and some 'tweeners. So when is a knife good enough to sell? You guys set a high bar for quality that I'm shooting for.
