Hi everyone!

First post on this forum for me, mostly because I,ve been busy on the MT forum, were I,m known as "Swede", but that username was taken here.

After getting my hands on a Hobbit Fang I also became a REKAT fan and ordered a Hobbit warrior and a pocket Hobbit, and would like to have some opinions on how they perform?
I,ve read some posts on how the pocket is but almost none on the Hobbit warrior.
So please let me know what you think about them!

Special thanks to Bob Taylor who in my opinion, does a great job on this forum. (I,ve been checking it out for a while but not been posting)

Take care!

Hi Burke!

Thanks for your reply, nice to know that the sheath sounds as good as the knife, this makes the waiting even harder, but more enjoyable to

Whats your favorite carry position with the multi sheath?

Take care!

I carry my HW on the off side(weak hand) from my combat commander. I practice more with left handed knife techniques. This is so I can carry a .45 in the same place I have for 26 yrs. right side behind the hip bone and carry a knife left side on the hip.
I do not have to think about deploying either, my muscles know where to go. ALso I carry the knife upsidedown. The hand goes down, the knife comes out in a slash/block.I can either be grabbing the pistol or the assailant.

Cheers,

ts

Hallo guys!

It was good hearing from You BMWGS80, cause i was thinking of wearing it upside down to, and wasn,t sure if the sheath would sustain it in that position. Anyone tried it in some kind of shoulder harness, because that was what I had in mind.
Anyway it would be nice to know some more good carry options, so please keep them coming.

I also would like to know how you guys carry your Pocket Hobbits?

Be well!

The HW was really designed for reverse-grip. It's one of the best reverse-grip "close range gameplan" fighters anybody has ever come up with.

I'm personally not fast enough for that sort of system but I have the utmost respect for the knife and techniques.

The Sifu is more my speed, mainly because Calif. laws allow it to be concealed and it feels better in a forward grip, my preference. When I can carry a fixed, I prefer a bigger forward-grip piece with more "smashing power".

Regardless, hats off to REKAT for building no-apologies, no-BS pure fighters that work.

Jim

Jim - I was interested in your comment that the Sifu is legal to carry concealed in California. I just traded for a Bladeforums Black-T Sifu, but didn't think it was legal to carry. So I can actually carry this beast? By the way, it fits my pockets just fine.

Ed

Ed, you bet you can pack it in Calif. Open carry or concealed!

Go to this page: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

Hit the checkbox for "Penal Codes", and then one at a time, enter these three numbers as search terms then look at the original text:

653k - this covers "what is a legal folder". Note the lack of size limit so long as it's manual opening. Note as well that as long as it's got no springs AND has a thumbstud/hole/disk/whatever, they cannot declare it a "gravity knife" even if it swings open really easily. VERY important: DO NOT remove a Sifu's thumbstud. That stud protects you from gravity-knife rules even though with most, pulling the lock release back allows it to (slowly) swing open. Pull that stud and you've probably got a bust coming.

12020 - It's a huge sucker, the part you need to pay attention to is section 24 near the end. It says that any legal folder under 653k that's FOLDED is "not a readily available stabbing implement". That in turn means it's not subject to the open-carry requirement. Again, NO SIZE LIMIT.

626.10 - The "school rules". K-12 are all screwed up, but Colleges/Universities still allow megafolders!

--------------------------

Local ordinances: a few towns have rules declaring bigger knives illegal. The limit is often 3" or 4". Enforcement is spotty and they're infractions. I wouldn't carry a large expensive fixed-blade open-carry in Berkeley, Glendale, LA or a few others but I'll conceal a megafolder no sweat. The only risk it'll get confiscated is if I actually need to pull it. In some cases the ordinaces only apply to fixed-blades but since they're very difficult to even find the text of, don't sweat it.

DO NOT ASK A COP ABOUT KNIFE LAWS. OK? Especially not in this state. You'll get all kinds of stupid mythology about double-edge being illegal (it ain't) or you'll see 'em hold the blade up to their palm to "see if it's legal" (utter BS). You'll also get told that "on the belt is the only legal place to open-carry a fixed blade" which is also wrong...there's an "example" given of what's legal ("openly suspended from the waist") but it's an example, not a rule.

------------------

The Sifu was designed for the California market! The 5.45" blade length was to allow carry in TX as well but it's really a "California special".

Thanks Jim - Cool! One of these days I gotta hook up with you. Anyone who likes knives and guns is my kind of people.

Ed

Kniven,

Congratulations on discovering the REKAT knives, and especially the Hobbits!

The Hobbits were designed for use in the overhand or reverse grip. Having trained in the saber grip style I was doubtful of the comparitive utility of the reverse grip. Then I took Bob's class and understood that the Hobbit Warrior used as designed made for a very powerfull weapon and could deliver devastating wounds with some simple training.

If you have not ordered the practice knives do so as soon as possible. In and of themselves they can make great less-than-lethal weapons, I got the bruises to show for it.

As to carry options - The Hobbits are designed for a reverse grip and therefore are suited to grip down carry. Drop your hand to your side, grip the downward pointing grip, draw the knife by pulling down and forward and begin a hip to shoulder upward sweeping cut. Think of the speed and length of cut that results!

If possible take Bob's course. I got more real world application out of the weekend than years of dojo had provided.

Take care,

Mike Crenshaw

Hello Mike!

Thanks for your reply, it was very interesting and made me even more sure that I ordered the right stuff!!
I get your point in drawing the Hobbit in the way you described, and will try to train with it in such ways.
Thanks again for your reply, and I hope everything is fine with you!

Take care!
