Anyone had any experience with there products? Is this the outfit with the green belts? Reason I ask is I see they will be at the Oregon Show next week. I'm in need of some heavy girt belts so I plan to check them out.

Ray,

I use the heck out of them. I'm the one who talked them into doing the show. TruGrit won't be there this year, again.

Their Hog Belts (green) last about half the time of a Blaze, but at less than half the price. They cut well and do a fine job. I use 36, 60 anf 120. Their lighter weight belts are all AO, but again not real expensive. They are a fine value.

Customer service is really excellent, too. I had a problem with the first 36's I bought. They immediately replaced them, no questions asked. I've been using them for over a year, and as you know, I do a lot of blades. I'll be buying more at the show.

Ray, I tried them once, that was enough. For cheater belts that do the rough crap and don't last long no matter what the price I get those from G.L Pearce. But I'm a cheap hillbilly and I don't like using high dollar belts for grinding off scale, hand grinder gets that job most of the time.
Now get back to work, you've got hooks to sharpen. :D

Gene, You need to convince Bill that these belts are pretty good. I find all the hillbilly's to be just like Bill. I've been using the Blaze belts from about the time they came on the market. Hogger's before that which I feel maybe the better deal. I ran out and bought from the only local supplier that had 2 X 72 belts and they were just AO. I couldn't believe the difference. I will go check the Hog's out.

Ray, I'm finally beginning to see how you are, I give you the benefit of my wisdom, and let me add I don't just share it with everyone. Then you toss it a side like an old shoe. Me and my hillbilly friends will think twice before we try to help you again.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D.

Seriously, I might have gotten in on the first bunch of belts like Gene did and they might be better now. Let me know how they work for you, maybe I'll try them again. I think it was Caffery that wasn't to high on them either, but thats been a while back.

Bill,

Aside from making knives I make blade blanks. I do far more blades than I do finished knives. The blanks are almost all stock removal, so I don't have the scale from the forge, just mill scale. I do both stainless and carbon steel blades, mostly stainless. I've done 15 blades in the last week, to give you some idea, and that isn't a lot.

I did Hoggers, then Blaze, which is a heck of a belt. I find the Hog belts save me money over Hoggers or Blaze. The don't last as long, but at less than half the price I can deal wit that. Since they are less than half the price, I have an easier time parting with them when they are worn out.

Bottom line is that I like them. That's their Hog belts, not the AO belts, thast work so well. An AO belt is not as good as SC anyday, but the Hogs work well. That's just my 2 cents worth.

As to Ray's 2 cemts worth, what can you expect from a guy who grinds next to a pile of hay?

I bought some 120 and 220 at the last show, they cut real well but the seams are terrible. I have started cutting the 120s for hand sanding. The 220 I can use if I am not too scared. The tape on the butt joint seems to be really thick giving a bad bump. They do cut well, I have not contacted them about this but probably should maybe a bad batch.

How many times do you need to hear "bad batch" in reference to a company before you get a little leery of them no matter what the price? I have yet to get a bad batch of 3m's or Nortons. I've got some 3m belts that are probably 4 or 5 years old (I got a bunch at one shot from someone on Ebay) and they perform great! I am running out so doing some testing with other belts.

I got lured to the dark side, I was so happy with the noton blaze in the coarse grits I wanted to see if I could get that type of performance in a finer grit so I bought the Hogs. In the 220 I got what I paid for, in the 120 I got less. Will not happen again.

I did pick up some 60 grit belts Sunday. I just wish I would have bought some sooner while there were some 50's left. I just got done grinding one blade and its holding up real well except I've got a little green tint in my beard. I'm happy so far with them.

I use they're A/O belts for slack belt worn on handles. Also the 400 600 and 800 for finish before polishing. I fine that since they break down a little faster, they give a finner than usual finish for a given grit. Thw 400-8-- are very flexable. Great for slack belting. You normanly have to pay a premium for a flexable belt. In this case, they are actually cheaper! a good thing!!!
