Hog hunt

watched some videos of a couple guys using a few scopes i was looking into for hogs. one of the scope was the "rapid reticle" and the other is a burris laser range finding drop compensator thang (not so many vids on that). seems peachy for daylight hunting.

Daylight hunting? Does anyone hunt hogs at night? I think I would definitely have to take a pass. Too SCARY!!!!

I'd use my Cold Steel Big Bore Blowgun....maybe my rabbit stick I carved at the Pathfinder School.

Speaking of Cold Steel....I HATE their knives but find some of their side products interesting (like my blowgun, which kicks squirrel ass with the multi-dart). Since we are taking hogs, what about the Boar Spear?

I'm actually thinking the Ka-Bar 8" tanto fighter would be perfect! That is if a bk9 HH was not available to me!

Guys I've hunted hogs since I was a youngin in Fl. 44 now. The best way to hunt them is at night "because it's cooler". We use dogs with vest's etc. catch the hog then take it home and feed it corn etc. for about a month. Then it's freezer time. The only Becker I'd use would be a BK5. You want a slim blade. Not saying the BK9 wouldn't work. For those who haven't done this it is 100% pure adrenaline. If you've got a 300-400 boar with dogs on him he is really pissed and wants to hurt something. You've got to able to get the blade in between the ribs etc. as quickly as possible. I've seen guys get hurt bad. A buddy of mine nearly lost his family jewels due to a hog he thought he stabbed. The knife slid along the ribs and didnt penetrate the heart. You make a mistake and someone or a dog is going to get hurt. Don't go by these stupid reality shows on tv. They are way over dramatize.

Go with someone who can teach you the right and enjoy it. Once you do you will want to do it again because of the rush.

Not my cuppa tea, but I'd take a BK7 if I was lookin to stab some penned up critters.

You have a good point about the slimness of the blade! That's why I was thinking bk5 or 8" tanto Ka-Bar. If I dare say,Cold Steel has those 13" magnom tantos. But I would never buy one because Lynn Tomson to me is an ***hole!

Lynn Thompson wishes he was a Power Ranger. That being said, I've never been disappointed with a Cold Steel blade, and they have some great hog hunting blades that do what they claim to do. I always figure when I get a CS catalog with a DVD that it's like a knife catalog, and a b-grade comedy movie as a bonus.

We've always gone after hogs at day break on horseback with dogs. It's a great time as long as no one gets hurt. This time of year we can go pretty much any time of day. The temp is just right to let the dogs run.

I've never killed a wild hog with a knife, but I have domestic hogs. BK-5 seems to be custom designed for slicing pig flesh.

Tempting though to use my BK-9HH and see if it lives up to its name.

That was a pretty funny segment on the show.

I had never seen that before. I liked the part at the end where he broke it! You could have made soooo much money if that hit you!

I like to use the cold steel RPG on hogs.
