HOG patches

Hey Tyrkon, do you work at one of those schools with metal detectors at the entries, and where you can't wear bandanas or certain colors to school?

We have a school wide uniform policy. No sports logos, such as Raiders, no bandanas, no lots of things. But it usually isn't an issue. We do not have metal detectors at the entries but we have random room searches where security takes all the students outside, scans them with a metal detector wand, and searches their packs. And though it might seem invassive I am glad they do this after seeing some of the things they uncover. I have also had the sherriff's dept. with a K9 unit come to my class and search for weapons, tagging materials, and weapons. I wonder if Morimotom is behind these "random" searches. :p I want my kids safe so I don't mind.

I'm not what most would call a religious person, so I won't say "bless you" but I will say I highly respect people like yourself willing to put up with that kind of environment to try giving those kids the education they need.

My hat is off to you!

Tyrkon, we're heading that way down here in Miami as well. MS-13 and lots of other gangs are having field days recruiting down here. I've had random searches in my classroom 2-3 times and they've always pulled in something, whether a steak knife, butter knife, SAK, something. Just last week, at the school where my wife teaches (Cypress Bay, biggest school in the nation...supposedly) some kid brought a paintball or pellet gun that loooked like a Glock to school, and it was found by a teacher when his bag fell over during a statewide exam and poured onto the floor. Needless to say, schools are becoming just as dangerous as the places from which they used to be sanctuaries.

Every student in my wife's class is a drug dealer or a rapist or a murder. Of course she teaches in a Youth Prison so at least she doesn't have to figure out which ones they are.

Where were we...Oh yeah, one set of my Hog Patches go on my 'murse' and I have a hat in mind but I'll have to stitch then on.

Speaking from experience, sewing on a patch that has a velcro backing is a major pain. They also look funny because of the backing.

It's a lot easier to buy loop side velcro and sew that on the hat. You can make it the exact size you want if you only plan on using the one patch, or you can sew a larger panel on. I can point you to a good place to get some if you're interested.
