Hey Trap, That pig looks like Ahly or what ever his name was. I can't believe people actually thought they would be good pets a few years ago. They were cute as bugs at less than a month old but as they grew they sure get ugly. Funny how the whole family started disliking the pig about the sametime. The funniest thing I can remember was we had an in ground swimming pool at one time. Durring the off season we'd let it go and it would turn into our own mini swamp. My wife was out doing something near the pool at the sametime the pig made another of his famous escapes. To make a long story short the pig walked right into the pool and went straight down. My wife jumped in right after it and saved it life. It must have weighed 80 pounds at the time. When I need a good laugh I just think of that.

pigs cain't swim?
I didn't know that.
My brother had a runt pig, a neighbor gave us. Brother bottle fed the pig and it followed him around like a dog. Fact is it got to chasing cars with the other dog.
The pig liked to caused a couple wrecks, people looking to see if it really wa a pig and a dog chasing their car. LOL

Sweany, To this day I still don't know if pigs can swin. I think my wife was feeling like a super hero that day and didn't wait to see if the pig could swim. The car the pig was chasing must have had some food either in it or sticking out the window. Thats funny! :D

We bought one of those rascals when it was a piglet, just weaned. Well, the dang rascal started to really stink when he was a few months old, so we had it "cut". Next expense, he and our lab were playing when the pig bit the dog's ear. So, my house being a black hole for pet dollars, our vet insisted the dog, having expensive cropped ears, needed plastic surgery. ANOTHER pile of greenbacks down the hole. The dog recovered OK, but the ear just didn't have the form it should have because the pig and dog gladly continued to chew on each other's ears. Me, I was getting used to having the rascal around by then and getting attatched to him. THEN, my wife, with her female way of thinking, decided she didn't want a pig in town. The pig was given to a pal that had a country home, and we could hopefully have some change left over after paydays. If I still had the pig I could have had him trained to tree squirrels by now. That knife and hawk pig hunting is for the adventurous types, like you fellas. I would think about the time you would hook the hawk into the hog, it would turn on you, getting a good firm mouthful of your leg. The next action would be a windmill action with the knife and hawk, kinda like chainsawing the hog to death before he dovoured most of you and took some of you home to his kids as carryout.

I guess I must be one of the crazy ones out there because I want to hunt a boar with a knife in the near future. I also want to do it with a gun. I guess everyone knows by now the big mean wild boar is one of my favorite animals next to the whitetail deer. :) I like their attitude. :D I don't know about a hawk, but a nice thick 9" blade is what I would use. If I ever get a chance, I'm going to make a knife specifically for the knife boar hunter. BTW, nice looking hawk Ray.

Scott, how about puting that blade on a 10 foot pole and poking the curly tailed chomping bastid with it? I still think that mean looking hawk's spike would do a real number on a hog's skull.

A friends daughter had one of those pot belly pigs that started to get mean, so they gave it to a friend. When she asked how Hamby was doing he said he tasted just fine.

John, that would be spear hunting :D I've talked to a local owner of a gun/hunting store who does it alot with knife and gun and he said it's quite a rush. My wife rolls her eyes  about it but she knows I've always been the live life on the edge type, always looking for another adventure. I've got a wildcat cartridge for my TC Contender handgun I'd like to try on hogs also.

another adventure if you want some fun
try pissing-off a black bear up here just out of the den from the winter. or get between a sow and her cub.. NOW that's fun.. :D

Here's how the slayer turned out:

I put steel caps top and bottom and a ring for a lanyard. I also textured the bottom third of the haft for a better grip.

man  that thing will dig in I'd bet on it :D Nice Ray

Beauty, Ray! Really, it looks like a REAL hog killer. I like your idea of the textured part of the handle, especially for hunting dangerous game such as hogs.

John, If I was making one for myself it would have at least an 8' haft. It would be my long range version. Sounds like it will be tested fairly soon. I just hope it works out for him.

Nice 'hawk, Ray.
I handle quite a few hogs over a years time and really don't think I'd wanna be on the handle end of one o them 'hawks with the spike in a pig's head. :-) bruce
