Nope, I'd have to buy a wide angle lens, and they get expensive :p

Back to the subject at hand though, how fast are you running that belt grinder?

Tony

Hey Scott, that's the first time I've seen anyone grinding backwards! I've always wondered why the crotch in my jeans always wears out first - always just told people it was the heat...I guess I wasn't far wrong! As to the relative merits of one's endowment, who really cares after a certain age? It's all technique. ;)

You know Dave I hear that alot as I said earlier. But you're right, it's all technique. Hey at least one other maker does it too, Jerry Hossom as stated by Mark. It works for me and I do stay somewhat clean. :p :D

Hate to pull the plug on Mark, but no, that's not the way Jerry Hossom grinds. I know Jerry Hossom pretty well, and he doesn't grind that way. He grinds with the belt running in the normal direction. Sorry Scott, but you're on your own bud... :D

Well he does somethin weird doesnt he?

Like grind on top of the wheel?

Hey maybe I can start a new trend. :D I know it's odd but it does work for me. I've always been sort of backwoods, errr backwards. :D While we're on this subject, does it really matter? Not that I'm going to change but just curious why this is considered backwards. Also what direction do you guys sharpen?
Scott

My grinder is built vertical, so I'd personally rather have the blade stick me in the foot than the head if something goes wrong, and with my belt moving at 5450 fpm, it'd probably be going fast enough to do damage to my hard head.

How fast is your belt moving Scott?

I couldn't tell you how I sharpen, it might make me liable (if that gives you any clue) but I can tell you that I don't even have buffer in the shop... way to scary for me, especially naked :p :D

Tony

Tony, I run mine slow and slower :D I'm not sure of the exact speed but it's nowhere near as fast as yours  I don't grind vertical at all so that's probably why this works good for me. 45 degree angle for me. I've just adapted to this form.
Scott

I do run mine pretty fast, but I'll tell you what, there's nothing like seeing a 24 grit zirc belt cut steel at 60 mph! :)

I run mine fast because I don't like grinding that much, I have used slower grinders before, but it drove me crazy how long everything took. I may still run the speed control one day for the fine finishing stuff, it is hard to work down to 6 microns without overheating.
