I think I may qualify for the "ColdWeatherOnlyGanzaaa." :D

The other night I went to let the husky out. I opened the patio door, she stuck her nose out a bit and ran to her blanket and laid down..
It was only about -15 fahrenheit.

Now there you go again with the negative posts. :p

These knives going to have handwarmers built into the handles?

Cold is not good for single malt. :grumpy:

You lose the wonderful aromas ... and therefore quite a bit of the taste.

I know, I sound pretty pedantic there.

But really, don't sip it cold! And ... just a splash of 'branch water' can also bring out flavors. But not too much!! Urrgggh ... watered down Scotch ... awful, just awful.

I need a proper dram.

When I drink scotch I drink it on the cool side. So I drop a very small amt of ice in it and let it melt out. It would be like adding a teaspoon of water to two shots of Scotch.

On the other hand if I want to taste one v. another I drink them at room temp with no water unless they are cask strength.

For me it is kind of like deciding between two women wearing makeup.... you really want to see them all natural before you finally decide. But once you pick, you can dress 'em up any way you like

I can endorse this method. Mostly, it's me ... room temperature ... and the single malt. Aaahhh.

They say it's best to use a bit of the water the distillery uses. But THAT is anal on a level even I find breath-taking ...

I went out for a short bike ride thinking I’d beat the rain. I didn’t.

But why is it so rewarding to ride home into a 20+ m.p.h wind that was driving hail pellets into my face the entire way across the Golden Gate Bridge?

The only bummer is that I need to go clean the bike now.:grumpy:

I met a guy from our company who was an executive in the UK. He was a big single malt fan, but avoided all of what he termed the 'commercial' brands. He would only drink stuff that was not chillfiltered.

He recommended Longrow (if you like your whisky peaty) Maybe Tony or OP can find it and tell us how it is, since some of us live vicariously through others.

that was reccomended by Bartender Tony!! as the best single malt under $70 a bottle!!

Oh, yes. I've had a few Longrows ... one's just to the left of me now.

I wonder if Tony has tried some? It's rewarding, but somewhat challenging.

I think I posted a picture of a Longrow, probably over in Tony's lounge. Longrow comes from the Springbank distillery ... the last one left in Campbelltown (an isolated southern region of Scotland). Every once in awhile, the Springbank malt comes out 'extra good' ... and is declared a Longrow. It's not as pricey as the Port Charlotte, though.

Yes, it is peaty. But I've certainly had peatier single malts. In some ways it's the opposite of the Dalwhinnie, with no honey and the heather all "gone to peat." It's good but it's a different experience.

I'll bring a bottle to Blade '09 and we can compare it to our other favorites.
