Hogs, please help me out - folder recs for my groomsmen?

Great choice with the medium stockman. One of the best!

Kevin, I agree wholeheartedly.

Guys - thank you so much for the responses and info :)

So I have been mulling it over and have taking a liking to the Case knives - they just seem the most classic knife and will go great with the proverbial personalized flask that I am also ordering for them as well (pre-filled with some Elijah Craig - my favorite bourbon).

The grooms are wearing green ties and I thought it would be pretty cool to order the Cases in a green hue, as much as I like the stag. So Bermuda Green handles is what it will have. Been doing some more research on the actual model and as beautiful as the Back Pocket is, I think it might be a little too big for these guys... I'm leaning towards the classic Medium Stockman at this point... Seems to be not too big and not too small and a time tested model...

They can also take care of the engraving which is fantastic :)

Case is a great choice for that kind of gift. Don't overlook the mini copperlock--slimmer than the stockman with a single blade and it's a solid lock-back. I've EDC'd one for the last couple of years after getting tired of babying $500+ customs. Action and lock-up are still dead solid, which is more than I can say for some of my customs. And the mini is enough smaller than the standard copperlock that it's very unobtrusive in the pocket. Same closed length as the medium stockman, but slimmer/flatter carry in the pocket and with an excellent lock.

CASE. Go to sheppard hills or one of the larger case vendors and you can one stop shop w/ engraving and they have hundreds of different ones to choose in that $ range. Personally I like the case trappers- fits great in the pocket and it does what it is intended to-cut well. I just got one a few months ago (have a few over the years) and they come razor sharp and just classy beautiful American made knives that are very affordable. Gratz on the upcoming wedding too.

I agree, Case is a well known name in knives, even by the non-knifenuts about us. The name recognition will be important even if they never carry the knife.

I went with Spyderco UK Pen Knives. I bought them at the Spyderco Factory Outlet and they put the groomsmen's names on the blade for me for $5 each (laser etched). I wanted Made in Golden more than engravable handles but it doesn't get much better than a Delica 4 for that kind of gift.

Thank you for the info on SH - just curious - who are the other reputable Case dealers on the net? Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much guys for the continued advice and well wishes - trying to make a final decision between the Medium Stockman and Trapper... I'm actually leading towards the Trapper right now as its a bit more simplistic and I like the shape and lines of the handle a bit more... so many choices!

There are SO MANY CHOICES. I am BY FAR a traditional knives expert. I would like to give you some feedback from my personal uses though :) I went out on this gloomy day and snapped a few point and shoot pics for you.

A while back when I still thought Henckels was Henckles, I picked up this little guy:

What I came to find out is that Henckels is actually made by Boker, which is okay. I have always had good experiences with the brand. Anyhow, what I really like about this knife (which you can get the Boker equivalent of) is that the main clip blade is centered and supported by the two springs. The secondary blades sit individually on one of the two springs.

I like this design a lot.

Also, I have a lot of slipjoints with different handle materials. While the mother of pearl was not always my favorite it has become one lately. I like that I can clean up this entire knife on my buffer with a cloth wheel and tripoli compound.

Another pattern that I LOVE is the Sowbelly Stockman, pictured here with my whittler pattern Henckel:

This is a Richard Rogers made slipjoint. It is the most amazing display of craftsmanship and perfected intricacies I have ever had the pleasure of seeing with my own eyes. Although I carried this knife and used it for about a year, I came to a similar conclusion as Will, I was tired of babying a 1k custom. So, I keep it in my collection and will carry it but I worry to much about it.

I feel it is the most beautiful knife I own though:

Anyhow, my opinion is to go with whatever pattern strikes you. I doubt you will be disappointed. Case knives have class right out of the box no matter which one you choose.

My MOP Henckels whittler has been beat and used to carve oak, maple, locust, american beach, white birch, sassafras, etc.... it has held up well and even with SS blades it will get SHARP and hold an edge well.

Also, if you really want to find some EXPERT opinions, check out the traditional forum in the knife specific section. You will go crazy looking at the pics if you like slipjoints like me. It is well worth the trip though.

Good luck and let us know what you decide on please :)

Case Stockmans are great, I edc one.

And Richstag, don't be a tease, open those babies up!

Greg - I just opened it to cut a piece of lime for my Corona. Does that count??? LMAO. I will get some shots later :)

Kw exclusive 0350.knifeworks does engraving . I know a bit over budget and size but hey your a knife guy you understand.

I know it seems a bit corny, but Bear Grylls makes a folder version of this for a survival blade, Made by Gerber and under $50 it really feels like a knife you would like to use and carry.. throw in the tackly box or car.. and you can get them now at Walmart :)

Very nice choice. I gave my groomsmen some folder's with engraving the day I got married too. They aren't nearly as crazy about knives as I am, but it was a hit and it's something they will always have.

Best of luck to you with your wedding and marriage whenever the big day arrives.

Hey guys! Well I was actually able to handle about 10 different Cases at a Gander Mountain and have decided to go for the... Drumroll....

Case Mini Copperlock!

Felt the nicest, one simple usable blade, lock for my non-knife savvy buds and it's really thin and pocketable.

One last question for you guys re engraving:

Are initials the typical thing one gets engraved?

Thanks :)

IMHO you nailed it with the Dragonfly:thumbup: but the Case is a classic for sure.
I'm sure your groomsmen will be happy you put so much care into finding something special.
