I've been trying to find this out, but can't find the answer. What material is the lock bar on the Hogue Deka Able lock? I'm assuming titanium like Benchmade uses, but I'm hoping steel. Also I can't find anyone who makes aftermarket hardwear for the Deka. Anyone know a source?

Nothing specific that I've seen. Maybe some of the flytanium benchmade stuff might work.

most benchmade lock bars are steel, the only ones i know that are for sure titanium are the ones on the bugout, tho i would assume the bailout & tagged out are also ti since they’re supposed to be ultra light weight knives too. maybe a set off an old benchmade would work if you’re looking for something steel. might be a bit hit or miss trying to find the proper size tho

That's the problem, I don't know if a Benchmade lockbar fits in the Hogue. Finding steel is no problem, you can get them off etsy.

Hogue deka wharncliffe with micarta scales is becoming one of my favorite knives. Might replace my Manix 2xl as edc.

Try Original Goat for Hogue Deka after market scales; nice stuff!

Why would you desire a titanium lock bar? On a volumetric basis (same dimensions) steel is stronger than titanium.

Actually, I found that that Hogue uses RED threadlock on the Deka thumbstuds, making disassembly even harder than it would be with blue threadlock. Hogue customer service told me that they don't want people taking their knives apart, but declined to remove the thumbstuds for me, even for a fee. Strange, for a company that makes after market parts for guns . . . .

Now I know why the bug out is expensive. I find the semi galling properties of titanium better for locks since it is less likely to slip than smooth steel.

That's disgraceful! My Deka is in dire need of reprofiling, and it sure would be nice to be able to temporarily remove the thumbstuds to provide a better surface for clamping the blade.

If we are talking about Red Loctite by Henkel then it depends which number they used.
We mostly use number 270 at work when screws need to be secured.
In short...... you need to heat the screw to unscrew it:
Red Loctite No270: 180 degree Celsius
Red Loctite No577, No542: 150 degree Celsius

I personally would use two pliers and rip the thumbstud off and order replacement.

At the time I ordered the Deka, a little over $100 for a Magnacut folder seemed like a good deal. Now I'm having regrets. The edge bevel is 24 degrees on one side and 27 on the other. Ripping off and replacing thumbstuds to put a decent edge on a knife is ridiculous.

Yeah,
the same goes for buying such knife and then you can't put a decent edge on it because of ridiculous thumbstud.
I don't know....then live with the edge as it is.
