Hogue/Elishewitz Extreme Knives EX01

Forget the new ZT 0550, I want one of these!
I already have an Sng and an XM-18 anyway. Why buy the stepchild spawn?

This looks like a really well made button lock.
The overall design looks great.

Nice to see a quality manufacturer like Hogue get into the game. Some of the other makers seem to be resting on their laurels. This knife may raise the bar.

I don't know. I think I still want the ZT 0550. I had a ZT 0302 and it was too heavy and I don't care for AO. The ZT 0550 looks great IMO.

I love the profile of the drop point blade. Not too keen on the deep valley on the underside of the handle though.

It does look sweet with the swedge. And the deep valleys line up the thumb for the perfect angle to get the blade open when pushing on the lugs.

It feels all right. It is right where the index finger rests. I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it.

I didn't say there is anything wrong with the new ZT. I simply stated that it is an 'almost' version of two top tier knives that I already have.

If you don't have a Strider or a Hinderer then you will surely want one of these new ZT's. I would certainly want a ZT 0550 if I didn't have a Hinderer. It looks to be the toughest, best designed folder, for the money, made today.

As far a ZT's go, it is absolutely the best offering yet, for the same reasons you already mentioned. Plus, it's not a recurve.

The Hogue on the other hand, is a very different knife than a Strider or Hinderer. I don't own a hard use button lock, hence, my interest in this knife. Hence, my remark about no interest in the ZT.

The Hogue is a completely different knife than the ZT.
It's apples and oranges.
I happen to be interested in oranges.

Jim showed me one at the Blade Magazine show last week.

I got to play with it for a while. Got to play with it again when judging the contest entries. I thought that Allen did a very nice job designing the piece and the build quality was good.

This may be a new knife, but these guys are not new to designing and making quality folders.

Soulrack, thanks for the very nice review and thank you all for all the kind words. This is Hogue's first knife and not their last; I am hoping that all the knives we come out with will spark interest and excitement like this one has.
Sal, it is a great honor to have you chime in; it means a lot to Hogue and myself.

Absolutely. IMO most companies like Hogue wouldn't venture into knives with this level of quality. I am still super excited about the Para 2. :D

How does a button lock works? Sorry for the noob question. Does when the button is depressed is there a ball detent that holds the blade in the handle or does it just fall out. I've always wanted to get one but if it just falls out from pressing the button some custom agents may consider it a "flick knife".

It doesn't come open when the button is simply depressed. I can't flip it open with a flick or the wrist when the button is depressed either. The button itself is the detent.

Hey Soulrack223, Do you plan on getting the G-Mascus soon??? That's next on the list for me . Allen and Hogue did an Outstanding job on this design . Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

I guess getting a knife from Allen Elishewitz is as close as I can get to one made by a Singaporean as I did read somewhere on his bio he won an art competition in Singapore or resided in Singapore for a while. Still saving up for one... May need to move some of my Spydies for it.
