Hogue

Have not owned or used any, but they get good press on this forum. I am NOT fond of any kind of aluminum scales, so my personal preference would eliminate several of their models in favor of ANY other scale material...G10, etc.
Their EX-04 won 2013 Blade Show for American-made Knife of the year, as per their website...

They make high quality knives. If the style and design is attractive to you then buy with confidence.

I like my X5 but recommend handling first. It is a 3.5" blade with reasonable handle length on paper but the angles on it made it uncomfortable and I returned for a 4". I don't think the others have the funky angles like the X5.

We recently became a Hogue dealer and the X5 was a big reason why. I have been very impressed with it. I agree a bit with what ScooterG said above about getting one in your hand. The spacing on the handle is not meant for every hand size. If you need some comparison photos of it with knives you are more familiar with let me know! scott@usamadeblade.com

I only have one, but I am quite fond of it. Solid built, snappy auto, with a cool design.

I own the 4" EX01 with gmascus handle and the 3.5" EX01 in aluminum. They are fantastic knives, and I love how they use no washers. Their action is very smooth, centering is perfect on one and slightly off on the other.

My only real complaint is minor: the thumb studs are a little smooth, so I scratched mine up with a sharpening stone so they gripped my thumb better for flicking

I have an EX03 tanto with polymer handle and the tanto Hogue made for Wilson Combat with the latter's trademark grip design. Not all of their designs appeal to me, but they are some very nice knives in terms of quality, function, etc. The only negative I can think of is that I remember seeing one for sale at a gun show, probably handled constantly, that had some fairly significant blade play. My two are 100% wiggle- and rattle-free, though, as are all others I've seen with that single exception.

Yes, they are very good, few things are as satisfying as playing with their button locks, but i had to take a file to my EX-1 aluminium handle to make it remotely useable, sharp corners all over, also it has no washers

Have the EX02 and like it very much. It's a good change from the standard Ti frame-lock flipper. Very well made.

@Whitty, I know Hogue also produces stonewashed version of the X5, and i've seen people showing the on youtube, but i can't seem to find these anywhere. Do you know if Hogue is planning on making stonewashed version more available and not just dealer exclusive? Thanks.

I have not heard that a stonewashed one is coming but we are the newest dealer on Hogues block so not much in the know with them yet!

I have a Hogue X5 (3.5-inch modified Wharncliffe) and I like it a lot. The handle fits my medium-sized hands very well, and provides a very sure grip. The blade shape, which at first struck me as odd, has grown on me; it provides similar functionality to a traditional Wharncliffe, but with the point more aligned with the center of one's wrist. Deployment is fast, easy, and consistent.

Of particular note is the quality of manufacturing. For everything I can see without taking the knife apart, the machining has been done with remarkable precision.

The blade centering is spot on:

The edge grinding is amazing. Check out this tip -- and notice the scale:
