Hogvice Needed

Do you have any idea how hard it is to buy toys in the situation you are coming into???

You will pay many more $$ to replace them. My married, 2 children, pregnant wife, own a business, wife works advice. try to stop BUYING. ease into TRADING and bartering.

Look at your knives like a retirement account, not liquid assets. The market SUCKS right now. Would you liquidate stocks in a down market, when you could double your money in 6-8 years?? NOOOO!

Besides, it would make ME feel guilty, and you wouldn't want to do that, would you??

Family first bro. Many of the knives that you have are replaceable. Maybe you should think about asking the buyer if at any point they are going to sell that you get right of first refusal. Or that when you have the cash you can buy them back. I'm sure a lot of us would "hold" your knives if you need the money. As was already stated they are only knives. You have much more important issues to deal with right now. Keep the ones closest to your heart and deep six the rest. I can give you a hand with some;).

As for the GravelPork ASH-1 I would be willing to order the two blades and have the HOG blade inscripted for you. BUT, you must take all three off my hands and do what you will with them. My wife will shoot me if I get all three. She showed me the gun.:p I'm not into the ASH-1 anyway. Lets talk.

Oh and congrats on the kiddie, house and any other major step you have taken lately. NO REGRETS!

wow -- sounds familiar. I was in the same crappy feeling two months ago. I'm buying a house in CA (scary or stupid?). I had many days of near panic over money. You shouldn't be taking advice from a stranger like me -- but i'll throw out what did it for me - maybe something will be useful.

I laid out all our monthly expenses right down to the dog food. Most importantly, i included the expense of the hobbies (may not want to let the wife see this list --haha). Once i had it in front of me, the panic was under control and it was easy to see what the sitchy was and where i could cut back -- and in my case, it was far more enjoyable to stop eating-out for lunch every day than to give up on the hobbies or sell off items that i couldn't replace.

...with that said, get your INFI order in and start packing the peanut butter!:D:D

Lots of great advice here, nothing I can really add except.....Congrats on your upcoming addition to the family, and the purchase of your new home! Everything will work out, it always does! One other thing, for me, I would do whatever I had to (and I did!) to get that ASH-1 with c4boar etched on it. When you consider a collection, that has to be in the safe! Just my humble opinion. Good luck with your decision!

We are working a budget out.....still some things I need to find out.

c4boar....thanks for putting on the pressure!!!;):D

Lots of great advice so far. What's bought is bought, keep it unless in very dire straits. Ease off buying until you understand your financial situation even if that means doing a detailed budget as some have suggested or waiting to see how it goes as many do. You don't need that engraved ASH. That may draw out lots of comments but it should be home and family first bro. congrats on the growing family and all the best.

you need infi for your new son... maybe... you can keep your son and your infi... get your wife a second job?

.

I got it!! Get a second wife, put her to work... ;):D

Ok, joke time's over...
A few things, most already mentioned here...

1. No more knives (the ASH-1 would be an exception, no point missing out on a real deal & with your HOGname on it). Trades are the name of the game until your situation improves. Heck, I'm only a little tight right now, but still have had to force myself to turn away from 2 MOASH's so far... One of which is a "holy grail" knife for me and the other, a close 2nd was listed today... :grumpy: There are ups & downs, and ya gotta ride 'em out.

2. Priorities... I'm sure that you consider your family to be #1,
...But I'm actually talking about prioritizing the knives you have in order of how much you will miss them and/or future value on the Exchange. Think about them NOW while you aren't scrambling for cash...Yet, I hope. That way, when the tough decisions might have to be made, you already know in your heart which will go first, and which will stay. Weed out any duplicates if you have a few, for round one.

3. You already have heard other good suggestions...
Pack a lunch, turn off unused lights/appliances... The other biggie that might ease things a bit is plan your day around errands to be run. I This can really effectively cut back on gas usage, and this'll add up fairly quickly if you plan the shortest route between all of your stops, i.e. Home/school/grocery/work/ect., etc.../home...
@ $3.00+ a gallon these days, we all ought to be doing this anyway.

JMHO :)

Things will get better, just hang tough and press on. BTW, congratulations on your 2nd child & 1st home!! :D:thumbup::thumbup:

Hang tough bro. Lots of good advice here. I agree with the "sell'em as needed" philosophy. Things will work out. :D

I would sell them as the need arises Jason. Don't do anything rash, besides it isn't like your blades will be in danger os losing tremendous value if you dump the later as opposed to sooner. I have been selling my extra stuff off as I need it and it has worked out fine. Congrats on the next like one. I would also take a look at your collection and take the opportunity to perhaps focus on a them for your collection or decide which ones you really want to keep and those you just like, as was previously mentioned.

Right of first refusal is one of those things I always extend to a brother Hog when I know he is dumping his stash to satisfy more important obligations. It is the HOG way my friends.

You may have to cut back a bit on your blade budget until you all get settled in. Houses have a way of kicking your finances square in the jimmies. If it's not the A/C unit getting replaced for many thousands of $$$, it's paying the bug man $1,500 to spray for termites. It never ends.

And guess who I learned it from:thumbup:. Rock on Porkgunner.

JAXX,
I already knew I liked you from posts and our transaction, but that is wise advice. Those suggestions are not only sincere but accurate  +1 for c4boar :)

I wouldn't sell anything, for the bit of cash up front you will regret the decision later. Look at your total budget and cut back on the things that impact you the least.

How old is the furnace in your new house? If its mid efficient, get rid of it and finance for a new one before you even move in. Compared to the high cost of fuel, new furnaces are cheap.

Check the grocery budget, perhaps there are savings in buying in bulk. Cut down on the car trips and combine as much as you can in one car trip and the like. If any of your friends are farmers, they can be a cheap source of meat and vegies. Just hang in there, you will get through it.

Furnace?!....I had to look at where you were from:D. I don't think I know anyone with a furnace. Hell...I haven't even ran the heater yet this year. And the truck heater went out too.

The house is 2 years old so hopefully no worries there.

Jason,
I will just add one thing here that I don't think anyone else has said up to this point, at least not in my quick skimming of the responses here.

There is no need to get that ASH-1 right now. AFAIK, that great deal is not time dependant, and you can bet the ASH-1 is going to be available for at least a few months. Wait until the end draws near and re-assess your situation then. After the stress of the holidays, and likely the purchase of your house AND a new baby on the way, you will be able to think more clearly and will make a more informed choice. The holidays will be gone, you'll have a new baby, you'll be in your new house, and you'll have some sense of where your pay raise will put you in terms of disposable income.

Best of luck.

Oh, MAN, can I second this!!:eek:

And when your wife comes from a family that loves owning real estate, your OTHER properties can also rise up and bite you in the stash.

Ups and downs ... downs and ups. That's life, my friends. ;)
