Looking at all the sale spam from knife vendors - not sure that the "deals" are really that great. Free shipping is nice, but I don't like being stampeded into buying excess inventory. There are a few things that I am looking for but I am willing to wait until there are some real deals on the table.

I started my knife obsession last year but really did not pay attention during the holidays etc. Now I am wondering whether to wait until after the holidays to scoop up sale items, or if the current holiday "deals" are real. I am inclined to wait until after the holidays and see what turns up. What I am shopping for is not rare or special - just some traditional folder patterns.

I started my collecting about same time as u so ive been in same boat as holiday sales goes......Im also tired of the emails about Big Sales and it being only few dollars.....Lets say im disappointed by what Ive seen out there, but its a learning experience.

Yep, the largest discounts I've seen this season were about 5% on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Not a big deal unless you are spending a significant amount. The occasional free shipping offer saves you more in most cases.

I will say that Benchmade is changing their price policies so vendors who used to routinely advertise a 25% coupon code can no longer do so. There is still a Shoppe or two who has yet to make the change so if a Benchmade is in your future you might consider seeking them out and pulling the trigger.

I'm with you brother, your thoughts are pretty much word for word how I felt after waiting weeks for the Black Friday sales... I was majorly dissapointed.

Another thing, the places with free shipping offers, I don't know about where you guys live but here in my neighborhood packages seem to grow legs around Holiday time, theives literally follow the post man around, if I'm making any larger purchases at all this time of year, especially something like a knife that the whole package can fit in a pocket and $100+ can disappear in a few seconds and there's nothing you can do- well I better get signature required, and I doubt those free shipping offers spring for that, so I'm paying shipping anyway.

All in all in the eyes of the retailers Xmas just isn't a knife holiday to most people (not including us knife nuts) so knife retailers don't feel the pressure like toy/electronics and even car retailers do.

Seems like in the knife retail world the biggest sales are around Father's Day and/or graduation time.

The only super good deals you will see, are on knives that aren't selling.

Yep, you get a great deal on Gerbers!

Yep. That's kind of what I am seeing. The biggest discounts are on stuff I don't need or want.

I get the joke - I might buy one of their multi-tools if I really needed or wanted such a thing, but I don't.

In the market for Nepalese Kukri's, machetes and traditional's. If anyone knows of any pre-holiday sales I am all ears. Will keep my eyes open for post holiday sales.

I hate how they pretend to have huge sales by stating the MSRP, and then the "sale" price, which is usually just the normal price.

Knife discussions go in General Knife Discussion, and deals and dealers go in FEEDBACK, so I moved this there.

Yes. SOP eh?

Almost no one charges MSRP except the manufacturers on their own websites.
