Hollow grind too thin?

I was playing around with nail nicks and a hollow grind on a 14" wheel for a lock back im working on. The blade is .085" thick. I ground the blade to .007" edge and the blade doesnt reach .015" until .240" up from the edge. The thickness of the point doesnt reach .040" thick until over half an inch from the point. The line running parallel with the edge shows the point where it reaches .015 and the vertical line back from the point shows the .040 thickness. I will be flat grinding the real blade, but what thicknesses and distances from the edge do yall think is too thin?

Howdie, Bud ! Good to see you are doing knives. I know they will be good ones. Ryan I make some thin blades. Flat ground though .085 top to bottom edge of about that same.007 I was thinking a 14" wheel would do those nicely ! The intended use has to be considered Frank

Hey stranger! Still here just whittling away at knives.
It would help if you told us what metal you are asking about...........

This blade is cpm154

CPM steels and especially stainless steels can be taken to a very fine edge before HT. While my norm is .010"-.015", I regularly send them in at less than .010"

This blade has been heat treated, and while i think the cpm steels can take a fine edge its behind the edge i dont like. Again this is a junk blade and would never leave my shop. I can flex the edge more than a 1/4" past the edge with no effort. The real blade i ground for this knife i ended up hollow grinding as well keeping behind the edge thick enough to not cause any problems. I am just wondering where other makers would draw the line on the thickness or lack thereof on a blade.

Hey Ryan. Good to know you're still making. IIRC I read a great WIP you posted on a TX bowhunter site years ago. After looking through it, I know I would be proud to own one of your knives.

Don't have much to add but thought master Frank's final comment was spot on.

Where are you aiming the apex of your long grind relative to the edge? And your wheel size options for now? Food for thought.

BTW my grandmother moved to Pampa in the early twenties. It's a very very long view to anywhere out there ain't it? - I'd love it still if it weren't for all the damn tourists - ha! Take care.

Well, Ryan, you did decide that particular blade wasn't suitable. Sometimes asking does help but in the end I believe our experience will tell us what will work for what or not. I most often come back to asking myself "would this work for me for the job intended?" Frank
