Hi !
I looking for hollow grinding attachment to KMG -1 , someone know where I can buy?
Thank you

This fixture will do more to limit you than help. It is a pesky critter and needs to be fine tuned for each "model" of knife. It also tends to only work with certain grinds, and needs substantial "flats" to operate properly. It also has a bad habit of grabbing the blade and yanking it down in between the fixture and wheel, ruining the blank and freakin' the bejeezus out of you. If you make knives in large batches of the same model and are willing to fit your design to the limitations of the fixture, it may be for you. I bought one as a gift to a friend/student and it proved to be far more of a PITA than a help. It's since been in two other people's hands and their opinion was equally as low.

Not recommended.

I just start me knifemaking so I looking any fixture to help do that . But you have right best way to make knives is hard working so I try freehand also . Thank you guys!!

When I bought by grinder from R.W. Wilson, he told me I didn't won't one, but I thought for sure I did. Spent the money, and after months of trying I finally figured out that it was hindering me way more than it was helping me. I tried modifying it into just a rest, that didnt help either. Threw them both under the bench, and in less than a week was turning out much better blades than I ever had using either other method. Like ol' R.W. says.." you got to feel the hollow" Guess 40+ years of experience has its benefits. lol! By no means am I as good as a lot of guys on here, I can tell you that it is much easier to correct problems without the rest or guide also.
Go to lowes and load up on the cheap flat steel and have at it for a couple of weeks, I think you will have much better results.

I echo all of the above. Save your money on the fixture and spend it on wheels and belts.

Freehand Rulez guys I just try me first hollow . Thanks

A good friend of mine once told me "forget about the fear and just do it"

Small wheels seem easier and slower speeds when your close to being finished. You'll do fine.

I have one for a Burr King that I'll sell you.... cheap.... :)

I used it for about 6 knives and experienced everything my buddy Fitz mentioned.

I've never sold it because I couldn't do it in good conscious.

Kind of sucks to have $300 sitting under a bench just collecting dust! :grumpy:

Would some one post a good method to do a good hollow grind. How do I start it, carry it out and finish it. Thank you. JIM

Get "making a sub-hilt fighter" by S.Johnson.In it he will show you from begining to end on hollow grinds, I learned a bunch from that one. It's a whole lot easier to watch him do it than try to explain it.

This is a great video and certainly worth every penny!

The video that taught me the most on hollow grinding is "The Loveless Legend, How to Make Customs Knives". I got my copy many years ago and don't know if it's still available, but if it is, get one. For the beginner this is probably the best choice between the two. Buy both if can, there's a lot to be learned from them.

Great info from two of the best.

Just my $.02
