Hollow Grinding Jig

That's actually a pretty cool concept. Hadn't seen that one before. Thanks!
What do you think about this ............This is jig I made for grinding edge down BUT If I take out this piece/red arrow/ and that two bolts and leave just this two parts /green arrow / and use this jig to grind edge UP ? With feeding rate and grinding angle adjustment possibilities ? On flat platen or on contact wheel ..................no matter ;)

What the heck is that grinder? Looks kind of wicked!
Seems like your idea would work well. I might try something similar very soon. Trying to work on my tooling more this summer, probably more than knives. I want to try a jig of some sort. Let us know how it works out eh? Maybe video?

Is that mounted on a lathe bed?

A small work rest will allow the knife maker a place to rest his fingers and/or the spine of the knife while establishing a hollow grind bevel. While some may consider this use of a rest to be amateur or unmanly I would just point out that knife makers like Bob Loveless, Steven R Johnson, Nick Wheeler, Johnny Stout, and other fine knife makers use these things to make consistent and professional looking grinds. I use one on every knife I make. Larry

I think it's important to be able to grind freehand. You learn a lot that way. But a work rest isn't a crime! :)

What is a simple (but efficient) design for a home made hollow grinding Jig.
I have a belt linisher and angle grinder as well as a dremel but will seriously consider all options.

This ! All you need + is only some true straight angle iron .You can find something like this crosslide for bench drill for 40-50$ .

Look up 7kmetalworx. Ant makes a really nice jig. Can be used on a platen or wheel. With any jig, you will need a good sized tool rest.
