Don will want to expound more, but Mark is a Missouri knifemaker who hasn't produced a lot of work, but the work that is out there is outstanding. Don took Mark under wing several years ago and the training is showing. Mark just needs to step up the production some.

Mark's a very talented maker. He has only made 20 knives or so but is better than most. He started around 12 years ago with fixed blades, then did folders (very nice folders) for a while and is now back to fixed blades.

He only makes 2 or 3 knives per year but hopes to pick up production soon.

Here's the first bowie Mark ever made.

first bowie.....man....he don't fool around...thanks for the info don....looks like he has a good teacher....ryan

Garly Levine brought Mark Holson to my attention about 8 or 9 years ago
I have handled several of his pieces..they are extraordinary...
Don's mentoring is evident but he has a distinctive style.

This is a wonderful collaboration from two refreshing and talented makers

That's beautiful. Love the blade and hamon. Love the way the ricasso/plunge/choil area. Love the handle shape.

I wish it was a hidden pin instead of a visible pin on the handle though.

Are you kidding  That single pin has become a subtle and classic Hanson Trademark. ;)

Another perfect piece of ivory. Is anyone surprised??

Here is a look at some more of Mark's work up close and personal. Riad is right...Mark does have his own distinct style. And, I like it!

Distinct?
I see a STRONG Hanson influnce.

But then, that's a good thing.

Kevin, I do influence Mark's work but I feel he influences me a bit also. I usually have a hand in the forging and heat treating of most of Mark's large blades but he has done it all on a few.

I think the distinctive style these folks are talking about is the way Mark does the ricasso/plunge/choil area.

Mark's working on a large integral piece but it will be a good while before it's finished.

Thanks again for all the good words, folks.

I had the pleasure of handling this one out at Don's shop today. It is one awesome knife! Don and Mark are both to be commended for putting this one together. Mark's fit and finish are superb. It reminds me of Don's Wicked Cutter bowie on steroids.

You have heard of guys who "need to get out more" Well, I would say that Mark "needs to stay in more" so we can see more of his work.:p:thumbup:
