The other downside to the ankle holster is it places the handgun in the dirtiest environment of any of the carry options. I have used them on and off for years, I think I have tried just about all manufacturers out there but was never comfortable with them. If you do chose this method practice, practice, practice drawing from it then practice some more and be prepared to do maintenance on your handgun daily.
In a car I find the crossdraw is still offers the best and fastest access to your handgun.
