Hi guys. I went to SMKW today as they were having the dealer rep. weekend. While there I met some guys from ESEE and picked up a Helle Viking. The highlight of the trip though was meeting Mr. Ethan Becker. We spent the better part of 30 min. B.S.ing about knives and such. He let me fondle the prototype BK-21 and take it to a whittling stick. This has got the nicest person I have ever met. I told him I was interested in looking at a BK-16 and was ready to buy, but then the bad news. They were sold out. As I had never handled one before he promptly went to his car and brought me his personal BK-16 to try out. I even saw him give a knife sharpening lesson to a young couple who was buying a knife. Thank you Ethan Becker, for being such a nice person. It was really a true honor to meet you. And you have made a customer for life.

Wish I was there... The man is a legend both for his designs and his personality... Now what is this bk21 you speak of??? More details please

Dude's hands down of the coolest people on the planet. Consider yourself lucky, he's both wily and elusive.

I'm not at all surprised by your story :)

I've been blessed to meet several "big names" in the knife biz over the last decade or so. A few of them are, frankly, arrogant jerks. Most of them are pretty fun people who love to talk blades and share their knowledge with anyone who will listen. The bar is set very high when you get to comparing amazing designers and makers who've made a big impact, and how remarkably friendly they are to an average schmoe like you or me. Having said that...

Ethan is by far one of the most-knowledgeable, friendliest, and open-hearted human beings I've ever met in this industry... or anywhere else.

he sounds like a class act. i'm really impressed with the customer service accounts i've read. besides the warranty issues, he seems genuinely curious about the failure. and he looks like a guy you'd like to hang out with. like your favourite shop teacher, or your fun uncle.

He's one of those guys you find around a camp fire.

Funny you mention that... the first time I met him, there was a camp-fire in full effect. We said howdy and shook hands, then he took my knife, handed me his, and we both got to work cutting things while discussing blade geometry and philosophy and the intricate nature of human history. He's weird that way... ;)

You guys got the knives and the Gi-tars...so jealous...I'd move but the Rocky mountains are a pretty good trade off.

I really liked CO. when I was in the army. If I was single I would probably move there and fight the fight against the anti gunners.

I met Ethan at a survival store in Knoxville and have been friends since. Murph said it best he is hands down the coolest dude around. My kids and grandkids love going out to Uncle Ethan's.

I've had the extreme pleasure of getting to hang out with Ethan at a few of the Beckerwest gatherings.
He's a real class act. Very likable and genuine.
He's designed some mighty fine knives as well!

lets get back to this bk21....WHAT WAS IT LIKE???????? TELL ME I MUST KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D2? stainless? kryptonite?
