Holy Crap! I just met Ethan Becker!

Hey Budazz........

Hello Mr. Becker, you should visit IWA 2015 in 6-9th March at Nuremberg in Germany (European version of Shot Show).
I was there for the last four years and there are over 1000 exhibitors each year, but no Ka-Bar display stand and no Becker knives :-(.
Chris Reeve and Cold Steel are there every year and some ESEE knives can be found too, but the best knives of them all still missing. Also I meet many famous guns related people like Eric Graufell, Zero and many others.
But no Mr. Becker to be found on IWA yet. So I hope I will meet you next year on IWA. Also one of the most beautifull Czech historical city Bohemian Crumlaw is not far away from Nuremberg (200 miles only). It is really worth to see.
Have a nice day.

So Jealous...I live in the wrong part of the country... :D

At least you are on the right side of the globe. I live in the wrong part of the PLANET :-D.

(But gun laws are second best after Texas here in Czech Republic and no knives are forbiden, everything is legal, poor British, German and others in big part of Europe - they can't carry normal knives etc.).

Hey MKabar.....

Let me say thanks for the invitation..... I think John, our CEO gets there and wheels and deals....... I would
Love to go and your invite may be the catalyst to get me there next year....... It would be too good if I could swing the Scandinavian gathering and then do IWA........ Thank you for the invite.....

You're most welcome Mr. Becker. If you manage to get on IWA next year, you should also visit Czech Republic after it. You are always welcome in our house and you can stay as long as you want.
I live some 400 miles from Nuremberg in Germany, on the other side of Czech in small town called Orlova (Eagle Town in English). And we have some free seats in a car every year (8 seats car, usually 4 people travel with me to Nuremberg).
Also the best way to get back in the USA is to catch flight from Poland from Warsaw or Cracow. Because Czech Prague Airport is to expensive.
I speak polish well (10 miles to the Polish border only for me) and I usually drive some of my friends to Polish airports, Cracow is only 100 miles from my home. I can get you there without a problem.

I hope that I will visit Scandinavian gathering someday also. It's over thousand miles from my home and with some sea in the way. Maybe next year I will managed to get there.
I want to visit whole Scandinavia very much, because my ancestors came from Sweden in Swedish war/invasion in my country in 1630-1635. I have confirmed direct lineage to a deserted swedish soldier (he stayed in Czech)
in 1635 from my mother's side of family.

Mr. Becker is a true nice guy. I had the chance to meet him today as well. I feel very fortunate to have talked with him. The BK21 is sweet. Bigger than what I needed. I did get a BK16 and a signed box with a picture of Mr. Becker. Thank you for the conversation and your time. My father in law also thought you were a class act.

Somebody please say something snarky.......

Serving wretch! Where's my kuk?!

<Shouted at Ethan from in front of the Ka-Bar counter as he went to fetch the new kuk off the pile for me>

Snarky enough? :devilish:

Great story. Ethan you are a true gentleman. Unfortunately often a rarity these days.

I'm not at all surprised by your story :)

I've been blessed to meet several "big names" in the knife biz over the last decade or so. A few of them are, frankly, arrogant jerks. Most of them are pretty fun people who love to talk blades and share their knowledge with anyone who will listen. The bar is set very high when you get to comparing amazing designers and makers who've made a big impact, and how remarkably friendly they are to an average schmoe like you or me. Having said that...

Ethan is by far one of the most-knowledgeable, friendliest, and open-hearted human beings I've ever met in this industry... or anywhere else.

Could not agree with James more - EB is very much a Holy Crap kind of guy!

Did Ethan ask you to pull his finger? You gotta' keep an eye on him.

When the camp fire blew up at Becker West last spring there were people running, people yelling, people stunned and Ethan standing there chuckling. Yeah, he's a cool cat.

he sounds like a class act. i'm really impressed with the customer service accounts i've read. besides the warranty issues, he seems genuinely curious about the failure. and he looks like a guy you'd like to hang out with. like your favourite shop teacher, or your fun uncle.

he is.
if he is able to have a spring gathering, you should do your best to attend -- it is well worth the drive (or flight) to be able to partake of his hospitality and sense of humor.

if you just met Ethan, it's not too late!

get the vaccine!

then buy something from Cold Steel ASAP :D

oops, too late.

this was a trap.

while you were reading this, your chances of escape dwindled to zero.

lol.

That is fantastic Frontiersman. I saw Dave Canterbury's picture with Ethan on FB and I am so envious for all of you who made that show. Now let this lone monkey climb back to his perch on the other side of the globe.

Just watch your ass around him, He pretends to sleep around campfires, the thing is he's not sleeping, he even fake snore's. Good dude though, and my lord all the stories. If you ever meet him and are stumped for what to talk about, ask him about the Al Mar samurai story.
