Let's see...
2 Spyderco Calypso Jrs
1 Spyderco Mouse
1 CRKT M16
1 CRKT KFF Pro
1 Spyderco ParaMilitary
1 fine and 1 med Spyderco stones
1 Camillus Heat
= I COULDA brought one VERY nice custom

I'm sort of in a similar position. Lots of production knives. I've even got a couple of Sebenzas, which are very nice, and I thought they'd be the stepping stone to customs. You know, buy 1 or 2 Sebbies or customs a year instead of 8 or so production knives. But there's still something in me that wants to have the latest design by Spyderco, or a classic from Benchmade. I may be coming to the end of that phase, though, which should be followed by a gold membership and a massive selloff.

See that's the thing....everything means something to me. The Sizzle I got from DR himself. The mouse is a trade from NCBlades. The safe queen caly is my sharpness benchmark. Always wanted a kff and a m16 and both are NIB. The PMil is from spyken and he put one helluva edge one it and, it's perfect.

Then there's the stuff I've gotten from Mutt..
Then the flashlights....

Keep the stones and your fav spydie.

Get rid of the rest.

Buy a Swamp Rat/Busse/CRK, your choice of 1.

Then start saving for the custom, unless it's a custom that falls into the Busse/CRK price range.

Simple ... No?

Rob

I would rather have a lot of knives. I get bored with just one. I like rumaging in my drawer of knives like a miser in his coins.

Good advice. I like that!
;)

What the hell...At least you were smart enough to also get those 2 excellent Spyderco benchstones to keep your knives sharp with...Gotta give you points for that.:D.

Simple? not really.. I should just get a job..

Umm, . . . then don't visit here too often, it's not healthy for your checkbook. ;)

GarageBoy,
What the heck do you mean "don't have much to show for it"?

Are you on medications or something?!

For one, you have the Spyderco Mouse. This is a discontinued item that is rather difficult to find (at least in my neck of the woods).

And then there are the TWO Calypso Jr's.
You will look very far and wide to find ANY custom made knife that equals the cutting performance of the Calypso Jr.

Just think about it, there is some dumb bastard somewhere with a custom made knife (that he probably paid thousands for) that does'nt even slice very well.

Don't expect pity from me, you lucky dog!

Cheers,
Allen.

Thanks Allen (BTW: I traded a Ti Herbst second for that Mouse ::smacks forehead, though I didn't like the Ti Herbst since it WAS a second) I guess instead of buying more, I'll figure out how to keep the Caly as sharp as it was factory

Crock Sticks or Sharpmaker.. I prefer Crock Sticks due to the price and I've used them for years so I'm rather good at it. Caly Jr. loves the Crock!
:D  :p

Don't you know it. I started the way GarageBoy did, with production stuff. Then the old bastard who owns the knife store I go to sold me a Wally Hayes hawkbill. Then a nice folded steel tanto, also by Hayes. Then I came here... ended up with a Reese Weiland framelock and a Mick Langley fighter. Now I have a freakin' custom katana! And of course I can't pass by a well-made production piece. If I tally up the total cost, I think I'll cry.

Did I mention I'm 22 and trying to pay off my college loans?

Stay far, far away from this place if a well-padded retirement fund is one of your goals in life.

GarageBoy, I see you're in Brooklyn. Have you been to Paragon Sports? Everytime I go there I'm tempted to whip out my credit card and buy the place. The second floor is like a really overpriced knife shrine.

You're not even close to having a problem yet. In order to have a real problem, you need to start getting into slipjoints. Old ones, new ones, mint sets, counterfits, the whole thing. Its a black hole for your money, but you'll have alot of fun on the way to the poorhouse.

By the way, you have some nice knives in your collection, alot better stuff than what I started with.

7 knives and 1 accessory? Not bad. Then again, I picked up 7 Lums this month alone... ;)

I think you have a good collection going... yeah, the money thing is certainly a limiting factor, but, as long as you like the knives, I think they've done their job. You said you are attached to all of them, so I advise you hold onto them. And, since you have some quality pieces, you have a good idea on what to get (and what to stay away from) in the custom world. Next stop - making your own! :)

Oh man, I had a ton of CRKT that I wasn't using, now, after lurking here for a while, I've got a Benchmade Apparition coming my way (Thanks to Tony Cheeseboro for that one :) ), and a large portion of the knives I have decided I don't need are in the FOR SALE BY INDIVIDUALS section. If I could remember what knives I have, I'll post a list. I do know that I am expecting a Buck Cadet and a Case mini Copperlock with amber scales that I won off of eBay, and the BM Apparition and a SOG Twitch XL from Mr Cheeseboro on these forums.
