Holy Geez and crackers. My wife looked at me kinda ashamed and actually told me tonight that she kind of needs a knife!!! gotta put some conditions on it

1. Pretty small about 2 1/2 inch blade but bigger than a Spyderco Ladybug (for some reason she hates it.

2. Lockback. She also hates Linerlocks and won't touch an axis lock.

3. Plain Edge. She hates serrations.

4. Easy to open prefer something like spyderhole or rounded thumbstuds she hates sharp thumbstuds

5. no SS or smooth handles. either aluminium with holes in it or G-10 or something like that.

6. Now try to find it with a Tanto point. she's not set on the Tanto but she really likes the blade style

Note: number six is the only thing she is flexible on. when I say Hate i mean it in the meanest sense of the word. Do not try to persuade her at all about the lock or serrations it would be dangerous to your health. :D she doesn't need a knife to be deadly she needs it to open packages. she is an expert at the Mommy martial arts. :)

thanks a lot everyone for the help. this is truly a rare moment in my world. Oh yeah she wants something a litle modern and tactical. she hates "old man knives" like the buck 110 or slipjoints

Benchmade 940 w/aluminum handle and reverse tanto blade. It's light, it's purty and it cuts like all get - out.

The almite Navigator fits 1 through 5. It has that modern look with the holes in the handle, feels sturdy, yet is only 2 oz. That or a FRN Dragonfly for less weight and money.

You didn't rule out a frame lock in #2...

What about a nice local knife maker? How about a small or ultra lite TNT from Tom Mayo? (Any size you like... You could even take the wife over to "talk knives" with Tom...)

Spend the money on your woman, and chances are she what won't care what you spend on yourself...;)

Michael

PS: And if she doesn't like it.... I'm sure you could find room in a pocket for it!

If you look around the web, there are still a couple of places (e.g., BestKnives.com) that still have the G-10 Spyderco Navigator available. Tough to beat in a small lockback, with a large, comfortable Spyderhole.

They still have G-10 Navigator models for sale at Spyderco.com. Go to the factory store area and then to the "discontinued" section. Price is $50. They also have the almite version - which only weighs a quarter of an ounce more - for $58.

Small NICA Tanto Sebenza ??? It's not a liner lock
and has the blade shape needed but could stumble on the thumb stud.Hoist it up the flagpole and see if the Lady salutes it .
Paul.

How about the Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight? Package opener extraordinaire. :) Or maybe the new Meerkat if she doesn't mind the "phantom lock".

Except for the hole (which is hard to get in a knife that small), I'd say look at the line of AG Russell lockbacks - a lot of NICE small knives there

Whoops, missed the no - axis lock part. Yeah, a Spydero Navigator would be a pretty cool choice.

Spyderco Navigator! My wife carries one and she absolutely loves it. Awesome cutting power in a small package. And, its looks don't seem to scare the sheeple. :D

Look at the new SOG mini-Vision.

Also look at hawkbills, the Spyderco Merlin (lockback) or MOD Ladyhawk (oops, that one's a linerlock). Hawkbills open packages up very easily, and just about everything else too, except for maybe a sandwich.

If nothing else, a Spyderco Delica is a great all-around knife, and you might be able to find it with a handle colored other than black.

How about the kershaw chive (2in blade) or scallion(2.5in blade) and they are easy to open.

An older Spyderco Standard might be another option if she doesn't like the Navigator. My wife uses her's all the time. She still likes the Wegner Jr. better but it's a liner lock. Let us know what she settles on.

sounds like most of what she likes in a knife are the things Spyderco does best. At the risk of bringing down her mighty wrath, I'd like to suggest the 2-bladed Spyderco mini-dyad. I got one for my wife, who's not a knife person, and she loves it. So do her friends. As a knife nut, aren't you obligated to attempt to expand her horizons to include a good small practical serrated blade?
