Holy **** recommend a knife for my Wife

Get a SOG small Autoclip in BG-42 for less than $40 before shipping. The blade is a touch longer than 2.5" (more like 2 3/4") but it is not a huge knife. The size is comparable to a Calypso lightweight junior. Best of all, the blade is tanto style!

I would recommend either a Spyderco Dragonfly or Calypso Jr. Both have the nice Spydie holes, both are lockbacks and offer Zytel handles. They are smallish and fit the female hand nicely. I think she should reconsider the Tanto blade. She'll find it harder to sharpen. It would be great for opening packages though, the point would pierce tape easily. However, both Spydies I mentioned have nice sharp tips on them as well.

If she doesn't have anything against framelocks, the Kershaw Ken Onion Chive would be a great one for her.

My suggestion would be a Spyderco Native Lightweight. It meets all of your requirements except for the tanto blade. The blade edge is exactly 2.5" long, although it is larger than most in that size category. Best of all, it gets you a 440V blade for around $50.

If your wife wants something a little fancier looking, and you're willing to spend more, see if you can still pick up one of the shell-inlaid G-10 models.

OK you got a lot of good recommendation till now,
if you nevertheless doesn`t find "the right one"
maybe you have to look for something really different: look for a fixed

I think a Perrin "LaGriffe" would fit nearly all points,
except it is not a lockback! ;)

My wife likes her wedding anniversary present,(15Y),

more than the Delica or Endura she was carrying before.

Here's something no one has thought of. Get her a MT UDT in an anodized handle of her favorite color, or nearest one available. You didn't say she doesn't like autos :p

Thanks for all the replies so far. I thought we had found the one with the SOG Autoclip tanto but she saw one and said the handles look too plastic like (I hate FRN but never told her, she thinks like I do) she just got all crazy and said now she wants black blade and carbon fiber. I don't know where the he** I'm gonna find anything like that but I'll keep looking. I'm gonna try today to talk her into a Native or Mouse those were great suggestions. man I gotta say that that bigbore fixed blade is Beautiful and a Piece that I would love to own myself. I'll let you know whatever we come up with

thanks again
Brandon

Have the wife check out the new little Chive or Scallion. All the ladies that have looked at these little beauties in the shop are really impressed. They like the safety lock and the speedsafe opening. The main thing is to have her go to a knife shop with a good selection and find one that fits her hand, has a good safe lock, and with most of the ladies color seems to be important. Good Luck!!:D

You say she won't touch an axis lock, why? If i were lookig for a small, fairly innocuous knive, I would look at the Benchmade 770 Osbourne - carbon fiber scales, decent blade shape, axis lock - even fairly stylish. A nice knife for everyday tasks.

How about a Protech TR3 with jazz handles?

You might need someone to blacken the blade for you, but I love my carbon fiber Dragonfly.

She liked the Carbon fiber Dragonfly that we saw. She ended up getting a Spyderco Meerkat which she loved but had handle problems so we took it back and the one we were going to swap for had problems with the scales too. so She got a refund and now she's still looking

SOG Stingray with cocobolo insert should do ..

Edit: second thought,
I tried Zippo folding knife, the zytel handle model fits nicely into palm and good to be used, not so expensive and can be flipped opened quite easily even though it doesn't have thumb stud.
But still Stingray is much more solid. Just add thumb stud and it is great!
