I'm interested in building my own disc grinder using the 9" discs that Tracy sells. Does anyone have any plans or photos of grinders they've built? I'm thinking it'll be variable speed, using step-down pulleys.

Thanks for the help!

i made mine by taking a car speaker apart and using the hub the magnet sits on to mount the disc to. i have pictures i can send you to show you what it looks like.

Here's a dual disc sander I built. Its not variable speed but gets used alot.Dave:)

I built mine with a disc from Rob Frink, a treadmill motor and a controller I bought on eBay. All the structural parts came from tearing down a truck full of old mainframe computers. ;)

It's not this clean anymore!

For simplicity and space/weight considerations, think about direct mounting the disc on the motor shaft of a variable speed reversable motor. It makes for a much smaller package and is easier to build.
