Well, I heat treated 2 O-1 blades and 2 1095 blade with success today! they take and hold a great edge. I used an oxy-acetylene torch, quenched in Vege oil. just gotta temper then in the kitchen over, finished them up, and put handles on them! Consequently, I will get pics up this weekend or early next week and 2 of them will be for sale, hopefully! The ones that might be for sale are 2 of my first knives I ever made, so the plunges and grinds are a tad off, but they will still look nice and cut!

Taz, good job. Its satisfying to do your own heat-treating and torture testing. It will build confidence and help sell the finished knife. Bruce

Yes Grasshoppa, you have done well!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Taz,

Great! Make sure you clean the blades of any residual oil before placing them in the oven. Otherwise, they will smoke!

I glass beaded them and got the oil off that way

Interesting finish with that! I am tempering them at 375 for 2 hours.

Taz,
Don't forget that you need to temper right away. Delay in tempering will cause problems!
Still working on it, Lynn

Ok. I tempered them, and they seem fine. Hopefully I lucked out

they turned a nice straw/light goldish color.
