this is a fun thread featuring your self hacked home improvements. If you want to post real professional work you've had done, that's totally fine. But for me personally, I love seeing the stuff people build for themselves- shelving, toilet paper holders etc.
I'll start off with extremely comfortable and slightly ironic project;
amazon hangy chair, opted for no cushions
had some nice heavy velour- I think Mrs. Loriendesign got it from a thrift store, she has a nose for good quality stuff and this fabric is pretty sweet
but not enough to do the whole thing. Needed some relatively stiff fabric, and not too heavy because that would make stitching harder and this is already hard enough
had a button up shirt that was no longer in play. Turns out the back was the perfect size for the back, and the front was the perfect size for the bottom. Plus, I kept the buttons intact so that I could add a more burly stiffener. As it is, there's layers of memory foam from our old mattress that I broke down, and corroplast from some window signs left over from the business for keeping the structure intact
the irony here is that I first learned how to sew when I was in Beavers/Cubs/Scouts from sewing badges on my shirt and sashes. This Scouts shirt- I used it as a patch, more or less
our comfy, hanging chair with awesome cushions that were from shit we had just lying around
I'm sitting in it right now. I realize this is pretty low brow, but that's how I roll. Looking forward to seeing some actual good work!
