home made anvil?

I like that Raymond, lots of mass. Should work really good as a hawk anvil.

Robert, I just got it set up. Raised it up 4 1/2" and then forged a small knife blade. Wayne can make some funky looking stuff but there always thought out well before he starts. Its got a little wobble but I think once its bolted down that should take care of that. At least I'm still standing up straight after moving it. I felt like it did everything it needed to but not sure how it would work for larger blades. I haven't done a hawk or ax in close to a year. Just haven't been bitten by that bug yet.

Who is Wayne?! Blasphemy! It was his book The Wonder of Knife Making that got me intrested in bladesmithing in the first place!

I like that!! Who is Wayne, and does he make these all the time?

Andy, Guess by now you figured who Wayne is. This is from an email I just got from Wayne Goddard concerning the post anvil:

That post thing was strictly an experiment to prove a point and I did. Point
being that a anvil shaped piece of steel isn't necessary to make blades. A
hardie hole on it would be nice but I always liked the way it sounded and
how solid it was under the hammer.

I'm not sure how long ago it was made. I told Wayne it had a funny smell to it. He said it had been out in smithy for quite a while and it was the first place the neighbor's cats would visit. Guess it had been pissed on a number of times.

Must be something about anvils, Ray. My dog has pissed on my anvil stand every single day since he was old enough to lift his leg 4 years ago. He used to sit by the anvil as we worked so I named it "Lazy Dog Forge".

He probably thinks it's his anvil, since it's his backyard.:)

That's a cool Rube Goldberg anvil. Gives a sense like it's some kind of exotic swage block for some mysterious purpose.
