The 'day on the lake' thread got me interested.

I spend a lot of time on my kayak fishing and just tooling around the lakes and rivers around here.

I am interested in building a small, 1 person boat to mess around with. Some ideas I've seen so far are catamaran sail boats made from PVC pipe, home made 'pontoons' made from 55gal water barrels, etc.

Anybody have a good site or plans for something like this? I was thinking of just a basic design with a couple barrels, a deck, and mounting a small motor to it.

Looking for something a little more modern than those two. Both look like fun though.

Here's a project that will get you floating

Propulsion wise - I think you should be able to rig up a transom plank to accept a small outboard easily enough with some clamps and softwood. There's a thread on this site somewhere in which a guy has done that to a conventional kayak. Dunno where it is, could be in Gadgets and Gear. Anyway, it looked simple enough once one got the hang of the offset.

there's lots of good plans out there for stitch and glue canoes. for soemthing else, the 3in1 is a great little rig, car toppable and versatile- www.stevproj.com

I had a homemeade kayak built out of canvas. It didnt leak a drop .Was very light. Use to fish with it.
