I was ask to post more pic's of my grinder awhile, so here ya go.

I made it out of my old Kalamzoo 2 X 72 grinder.

Geo, I cant tell what that grinder looks like. Step back a couple feet and take another group of shots. Is this something we can make? I see a cross vice but what does it do? What is the magnetic chuck mounted to?

I looked at it 2 weeks ago when I was there. There are two cross slides, one adjusts the height of the wheel(Z axis) the other does X and Y (and is the one the mag chuck is mounted on) very cool setup!

I wonder how hard it would be to make something like that would hold a blade and attach to a KMG tooling arm...and then surface grind on the KMG

Thanks, the cross vice on the bottom that has the chuck mounted looks to be a bigger longer travel one. Where do you get those? It looks like a small milling machine table actually. I wonder if I could mount a belt grinder on my milling machine and use the power feed to move the table? Might be something to think about.

IG, I'm curious about the Z-travel - because the X-Y-tables are designed to work horizontally (in terms of gravity).

Did you have any problems/considerations with the tracking/play of the Z-travel?

I'm more curious about the travel along X...

Doesn't only moving .2" per revoultion mess with you?
I picture heat generation being a problem, and dwell marks...

All my experience is with a rock though, never messed around with a belt.

As long as you keep the table moving you do not get any dwell marks. As far as heat there is no problem as long as you use a new belt. I use the 977 belt from Pop's, they are designed for high pressure applications. With a new 977 40 grit belt on it, I can take .005" per pass.
