Home made Wilton Square Wheel. Help please.

Thanks 123....

Unfortunately that great website doesn't do direct dealings with international orders, I have to use a 3rd party. great shop though!!
Fortunately though Jantz have emailed me in one day with costs for shipping a wheel to me. Its their 10" * 2" smooth all up, $340, as far as costs go, Im happy with that.
Also may get some D2 of them, great service so far.
Anyone used those wheels from them? I think they are for Badder.
BAck to the subject, if you don't have tools or access to them and scrap steel laying around, it may be easier to buy a machine, for those thinking of it.

I would have gone with a Kalzmazoo (wilton copy).

Oh, as far as noise and the like, this one is very quiet compared to my last one (large multi tool copy) and my shop bought multi tool belt grinder. Hopefully keep the neighbours happy.

That grinder on the easy build or whatever is a poor design in my opinion. There could be some dflexing in that frame and worst of all there isn't any room on the left hand side when flat grinding. For the numbers man, I don't know if the Wilton is better than the KMG but it certainly will do any grinding I want. It certainly was an easy one to copy. Frank

Frank im with you on the design fault regarding flat grinding. The flat grinding platen i made sticks forward a lot further to over come that.

The frame I have will never flex 9for normal knife grinding. the main contact wheel rides on a 5/8 shaft that tapers up to 3/4 axle that rides on the bearings.
The one pictured is too small imo.

I made the belt tension/tracking arm more beefy too.

Fracis,
If you still need a 10" smooth wheel for a good price I have a smooth Grizzly Wheel which I had machined out for bearings that take a 5/8" shaft. No need for it as I do few hollow grinds. PM me if interested.

Ken
