My girlfriend shot and then posted this by the front door.
20171119_115125.jpg .357 mag. She shot well as you can see.
We had someone Jimmy the sliding glass doors one night about a year ago, came in the house and stole a smart t.v.
While we were asleep in the house!
That's when she decided to learn to shoot.
So far no more break ins.
The shadow in the background is me. Good lookin ain't I? :)

Beats my suggestion of throwing knives in each room.
Still not heard back an opinion on that one.

Well, aside from having a sliding door that is easy to jimmy open, you now have posted that in addition to the new replacement TV, you have guns in the house!

Not sure that's sound tactics.

I get the idea but the other posters make a good point. Our house got broken into when I was in high school, they came in thru the sliding glass door in the back of the house. I took the sliding door out of my current house, filled it in with 2x4s + bricks and added a stout metal door with a very small window + good quality door locks.

No more sliding glass doors for me and I will never own sidelight windows and no doors with big windows that people can break and reach thru to open the locks.

Would it really be that hard for your own home address to be determined from just the posts in this board? Anyone here that's uploaded a picture of their goodies is advertising what they've got, and as good as BF is, I don't think it's the most secure website in existence.

Some thieves don't care how much noise is made, breaking sliding door glass at the rear......An immediate entry followed by a prompt exit.

I have no idea how you would obtain an actual address other than identifying the person and the city. Generally speaking I seldom post anything valuable on a forum. When I mean valuable, I mean something that is easily stolen and resold like guns for example. Doubt anyone is going to break into a house for a knife, but they may take them once they're inside.

I have had two robberies in my life. Once was in my house in Texas and I think they had a key. I believe I left a set of keys in the ignition with my vehicle parked in the garage and I never found them. That particular incident happened while I was asleep. I'm actually pretty sure the key thing is precisely what happened as there was no forced entry and the doors were locked. Other incident was my unlocked truck in the driveway full of some expensive stuff. I had gotten home late, tired, and didn't pull it into the garage and left it unlocked. So goes life.

It's easy to break into a house if you're willing to break a window.

Or the OP could move!:p Find a place where people leave everything open and unlocked without incident.

My home security system is having the crappiest house on the block. Even the dumbest burglars would know that there would be better stuff in my neighbor’s house.

Well, ok ... I have lived in this open and unlocked place all my life ... and continue to do so .... yet I get that most folks don't. I do not lock my doors.

I could not wish more than an easy peace and security upon everyone in their daily life ... I so wish and work toward everyone having the freedom from fear. I don't feel alone - I think that freedom from fear is a universal goal.

I grew up in West by gawd Virginny and never was a door locked and never was there a burglary. Also evryone had knives and guns, some may remember when kids used to compare knives while at school.

Things have changed in 50 some years for me, I live in Floreeduh now and have for 30 yrs. It wasn't until last year we had any problem.

Interesting. I was semi-kidding. Locks etc. can deter a criminal, and I still find it more comforting not having to look over my shoulder…

There are certain parts of the country I’m aware of where crime is very high—mostly drug-related. In some cities the crime is sequestered to certain neighborhoods. What changed in your area?

I’ve only experienced one break-in (knock wood) YEARS ago, and it was an inside job: roommate’s friend/aquaintance—not a good feeling to have someone violate your space. They only stole from my roommate.

Other than that, a few neighbors had loose change—quarters and dimes— taken from their unlocked vehicles.

Good luck!

I think what changed was some unsavory folk moved into the neighborhood. They have since moved out, most likely whith our t.v.

Bummer!
Let’s hope that’s the beginning, middle, and end of your problem. I hate thieves!!!

Stories like this alway remind me of the words of a family member when asked if he would install an alarm after a home robbery, ”the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh.”

I’d never seen anyone so sanguine about getting looted.

Ty Annr we are hoping there will be no more. The most disturbing part was they had to know we were home, yet they still came in.

I hate thieves too. There is an unwritten code of conduct with pickup trucks.... you do not take stuff from inside the open bed of a pickup.

On my incident with the pickup parked in the driveway, it was in fact locked now that I think about it. The thieves just jerked the back window out. Didn't even break it. There was clothing strung down the road for 100 yds from them. I lost a lot of stuff (read $) on that ordeal and didn't turn it in on insurance. I just felt that I should have had the vehicle inside the garage.

We lock our doors now. The last thing I do before going to bed at night is check the doors. There is a but however as my wife is working nights now and if one of our cats does not return from their wandering outdoors at night, I leave the garage door cracked enough from them to crawl under into relative safety from predators. I leave the garage access door unlocked because my wife hates to dig out her house key. But I try to be awake when she arrives in the morning regardless.
