Home telephone brand choice?

I've had terrible luck with a lot of different cordless phones. All I buy now are Motorola. I'll never buy anything else unless of course Motorola starts slacking off on quality.

Someone else already mentioned it but I'll reiterate. If you have a wireless network in your home it will probably be 2.4 Ghz. I would recommend 5.8 Ghz phones so your phones aren't stepping on your wireless network.

The newer phones using NiMh batteries should not be discharged completely like the older NiCd's.

There is no "memory effect" on the NiMh batteries and it will ruin them if you run them down completely.

Thanks Daniel I wasn't aware of that! I did read on one of the phone sites that you could leave their cordless on its base charger anytime you weren't using it and it wouldn't hurt the batteries, didn't explain why though.

And thanks to everyone else and please keep your viewpoint's and opinion's coming! The more info I have the better armed I will be after the first of the year when we get our new phone system. :D

This here's my preference, Yvsa, ol' chap:

We've got a large house with activity from the basement to the second floor. We have 5 cordless phones (and a spare unit). It is kind of nice if you get a package that has more handsets than you need. That way you have a spare and it is easy to discharge your batteries without losing your ability to make calls. We have a 5.8GHz Motorola system. I think that we have had this system less than 2 years. The battery life has gone down dramatically and my wife is really complaining. She works from home and is on the phone for several hours a day. I am going to have to buy some NiMH batteries for them. The NiCd's aren't cutting it.
