Home upgrades on a khukuri's blade

Josh... Thanks for turning me on to the sharpening CD… A satin finish will be maintained on the Gelbu Special by Kumar, which I purchased yesterday. Nice and easy... You're always helpful. :)

Bruise... I suspect (I'm NOT making an accusation), that it was you who “woodchucked” Walosi. :rolleyes: That guy’s in a class of his own, and provided me with tons of information regarding wooden khukuri handles. Thanks!

Yvsa... Walosi confirmed your saatisal recommendations, and my special order GS will have a carved one; against your recommendations... At least I’ll get the carver to smooth the handle a bit. It will be a presentation grade GS; I’m into function, but am also very keen on aesthetics. For a user blade, I agree; my GS by Kumar is horn, and who knows what the future will bring...?

Etp777... I’m sure you’ve sharpened more than a few knifes, and gave them every type of finish and patina under the sun. I’ll always welcome your knife savant; it's most appreciated -- thanks.

Kismet... Just discovered that Nepal is about the size of Nepal; any Gurkhas there, or just lots of khukuris? I think I’ll get along just fine with Yangdu; I have an extra eye loupe that I can send her to “beef up” (better to say buffalo up) quality control for blades earmarked for Italia. :D

pendentive... Belt sanders are for the hardcore crowd. Now that my 1st khukuri will be arriving soon, I’ll need a copy of your CD. I’ll send you an e-mail, and we can work out the formalities. I appreciate your tutorials! I’ll get around to figuring out how to insert an Avatar hopefully before I go back to work on the 7th Nice to have a fellow stickler (we are NOT anal retentive) to detail on the forum.

Dean... Stop; information overload! :eek: Are you related to Walsoi by any chance? Your're going to scare newcomers away will all these photos and links! :D Wait a second, Dean!!! One last favor; where can I find exaples of carving that the Hawaris can do for me? No demons, thank you! Really elegant and intricate flowers, leaves, whatever. Real classy, refined stuff. Send me your bill for services rendered! Does HI's forum have a resident "black belt" in carving?

I've definitely succembed to HIKV, and a case of unbridled enthusiasm! I’m waiting for the all the artillery to quiet down (It’s already 2004 here) before I catch some z’s. Have a great New Year’s, and leave them khukuris checked in at the door! See you next year! Dan :yawn: You're all wonderful people, and i'm very happy that I've found such a classy group of enthusiasts to hang out with!

Just discovered that Nepal is about the size of Nepal;

You are wrong. Nepal is a really huge country - if you unfold it... :D

(something a swiss friend told an American who called Switzerland a "small country"...)

That was a typo in a response to Kismet... It was supposed to say that Wisconsin is about the same size of Nepal. My sources (which might be completely way off) indicate that both contain a land mass of approximately 55,000 miles. Land size estimates on Nepal vary quite a bit depending on the source. Check it out, and let us know!
